Position Summary

Reporting to the director, this full-time, benefits-eligible position provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate of a liberal arts college to attain professional experience in the field of civic engagement. In collaboration with CCE staff, the Post Baccalaureate Fellow (PBF) will enhance the quality of civic engagement programs through data collection and aggregation, facilitation of structured reflection for Civic Engagement Scholars (CESs) and program participants, development of communications, and event planning. Qualified candidates for this full-time position will have hands-on experience in undergraduate civic engagement programs and/or courses that embody critical approaches to community-based learning. Preference will be given to a graduate of Kalamazoo College, ideally having worked with the CCE.This is a one-year appointment (summer 2024-summer 2025) with possible renewal for a second year, contingent upon department needs

Primary Responsibilities

Data Collection

* Coordinate collection of quantitative and qualitative impact data from students, faculty, and community partners.

* Support quarterly and annual data aggregation and assessment.

* In collaboration with staff, support CESs with program assessment and implementation of methods of data collection.

Structured Reflection

* Create and maintain a structured reflection resource archive for student-led program reflections.

* Support CESs in developing and facilitating structured reflections with program participants.

* Attend student-led program structured reflections and provide feedback and coaching to CESs.

* Support planning and facilitation of CES structured reflections and workshops.

Communications

* Create content for, maintain and consistently update CCE social media accounts.

* Assist with CCE website updates.

* Collect, organize and maintain an archive of CCE photos, videos, interviews, quotes, etc.

* Maintain CCE bulletin boards.

* Support campus-wide communications, including creating content for campus screen carousels, Hornet Hive announcements, etc.

Program and Event Support

* Assist with program transportation as needed.

* Support planning and facilitation of annual CES orientation.

* Support planning of CCE events, including First Year Forums, outreach and recruitment events, and program field trips, among others.

* Support Community Building Internships program, including orientation planning curriculum preparation, and structured reflection planning and facilitation

* Support course-based partnerships with data collection, special event planning, and other needed administrative tasks.

* Assist with coordination of program-specific application processes including background checks.

* Research best practices and new ideas for civic engagement from the field; in collaboration with colleagues, identify opportunities for program improvement.

Service to the College and Administrative Duties

* Serve on College committees; contribute to ongoing work on diversity and inclusion

* Attend and present at Admissions, Advancement, and First Year Experience programs, as needed.

* Greet visitors to the office and connect to the appropriate staff person.

* Maintain CCE office space, including stocking paper products and snacks and organizing supplies.

* Assist the Operations Manager with transportation coordination and biweekly timesheet management for student workers, as needed.

Qualifications

This entry-level position, for a recent graduate of Kalamazoo College, builds upon their experiences with civic engagement, preferably in a leadership role. The qualified candidate will bring many of the traits below.

* Demonstrated success with complex program and event planning and logistics

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Experience working with diverse communities on and off campus, and desire to build inclusive and just communities

* Experience with data collection and analysis

* A history of social justice involvement, including knowledge of issues such as educational and health equity, youth empowerment, community organizing, food justice, etc.

* Knowledge of community-engaged learning in higher education

* Considerable experience with/or ability to learn Google Drive, Microsoft Office suite, Colleague, Word Press, Canva, and Instagram

* Comfort with ambiguity, and ability to work nimbly in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment

* Willingness to learn on the job; high degree of initiative and flexibility

* Desire to work collaboratively
