Job Description:

SCHOLARSHIP & FELLOWSHIP ADVISING
  • Recruit and advise students applying for STEM-related nationally competitive opportunities (NSF REU and GRFP, NIH SIP, DoD SMART, Goldwater, etc.)
  • Recruit and advise STEM students applying for other nationally competitive opportunities (Gilman Scholarship, Fulbright U.S. Student Program, etc.)
  • Support student applications from first drafts to final submissions, helping them identify their academic and career goals, as well as their motivations, and communicate those ideas in essay format.
  • Collect, track, and revise students' application materials, regularly offering feedback for scholar development
  • Serve as university liaison to nationally competitive opportunities in STEM, maintaining familiarity with the purpose, features, eligibility criteria, and timelines of assigned competitions
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Work with STEM faculty to establish pipelines to identify, recruit, and support the scholar development of high potential STEM students throughout their undergraduate careers
  • Collaborate with STEM faculty and campus partners to plan, design, and implement recurring workshops and events to promote scholar development, recruit applicants for nationally competitive opportunities, and celebrate student success
  • Implement evaluation and assessment processes to collect, analyze, and act on data
  • Develop informational literature for STEM students, faculty, and staff to promote the mission of the office (campus research opportunities, summer research opportunities, scholar spotlights in STEM majors, etc.)
  • Maintain information systems for various reporting audiences
CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT
  • Cultivate applicants for assigned nationally competitive opportunities through outreach programming in partnership with academic colleges, departments, and offices (Intercultural Student Engagement Center, Mahurin Honors College, Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science, Global Learning and International Affairs, etc.)
  • Manage campus evaluation committees consisting of faculty and staff in STEM
  • Serve as a liaison to other university units, such as Student Financial Assistance, Office of Admissions, Communications and Marketing, Alumni Association, etc.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with special projects, which may include supervising students, as assigned by supervisory personnel
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and travel occasionally
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to learn web-hosted applications and systems that support the work of the office
Additional Information:

Salary Range:$38,000 - $45,000
