    DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
    1. Hold Valid West Virginia Certificate in Social Services and Attendance OR Valid West Virginia administrative certificate, pursuant to WV Code §18-8-3.
    2. Applicant should have effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    3. Applicant must have at least (3) successful years of experience in school administrative work.
    4. A broad knowledge of WV law particularly §18-8-1.
    5. Ability and skills to work cooperatively and effectively with staff, students, parents, the public and other agencies.
    6. Possess a high level of computer competency and training skills, including but not limited to Board Docs, Microsoft Office, email, and software applications, etc.
    7. Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state and local policies regarding public education.
    8. Managerial, communication, and leadership skills and equivalent combination of experience, knowledge, and skills to be effective in the position Experience in communicating and assisting in the resolution of personnel issues.
    9. Demonstrated experience and success in managing and supervising multiple tasks.
    10. Strong writing and communication skills.
    11. Demonstrates effective organizational skills.
    12. Ability to meet deadlines.
    REPORTS TO: Superintendent and/or designee
    RESPONSIBILITIES: All administrators must: maintain valid administrative licensure at all times, renew administrative/educator licenses as set forth by WVDE, maintain positive work habits, perform duties as assigned and directed, maintain and upgrade professional skills, communicate effectively and exhibit professional administrative knowledge and strategies.
    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Carry out all duties as Director of Attendance as directed by the WVDE and the WV Code.
    2. Direct and manage programs to promote regular school attendance
    3. Promote regular school attendance through written legal notice to the parents of students in violation of the compulsory attendance laws and Board policies.
    4. Pursue legal avenues for violators of compulsory attendance law by filing criminal complaints and juvenile petitions on habitually truant students as needed.
    5. Prepare reports for the Superintendent and Board of Education detailing school enrollment, school attendance, and drop-out data.
    6. Cooperate with existing state and federal agencies charged with enforcement of child labor laws.
    7. Participate in community multi-disciplinary team meetings to improve attendance through a community approach.
    8. Establish rapport with students and their families by making frequent home visits and keeping in close contact with the students’ parent/guardian throughout the year.
    9. Serve as the county liaison for homeless children and coordinate the implementation of guidelines set forth by the McKinney Vento Act.
    10. Service as the county Foster Care Liaison.
    11. Oversee and carry out all necessary tasks for as related to virtual school.
    12. Perform other attendance related duties.
    13. Oversee and provide guidance regarding student affairs.
    14. Coordinate Alternative Education.
    15. Oversee and provide guidance for CTE.
    16. Oversee and provide guidance regarding Homeschooling.
    17. Oversee the preparation and presentation of appropriate training for county personnel.
    18. Assist with determining staffing needs and conducting interviews.
    19. Provide leadership and support in his/her area of responsibility.
    20. Establish and maintain good public and employee relations.
    21. Maintain professional work ethic.
    22. Conduct needs assessments.
    23. Conduct performance evaluations for employees as directed.
    24. Conduct other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
    TERM: 261-Day contract to begin July 1, 2024.
