PURPOSE
Promote the educational development of each student toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of this position include offering adequate supervision to the entire physical plant by making daily checks of all floors of all buildings in addition to providing supervision to the general outdoor campus, supervise the school parking area by maintaining a close and constant surveillance of that section while seeking to resolve students' problems in a prompt and reasonable manner. The assistant principal assists in maintaining student control during the lunch period through daily presence in the cafeteria, corridors and parking area throughout the noon break; develops and maintains an accurate and current system of recordkeeping, which reliably reflects student's attendance and tardy patterns; and projects a positive and cooperative attitude toward students, teachers, parents and the community by resolving disciplinary problems in a manner which gives prime consideration to the welfare of the individual student while acknowledging the school's responsibility to the total community. In addition, the assistant principal will structure and conduct parental conferences on attendance and behavioral problems in a manner which corresponds to the Meridian District's policies, giving consideration to the feelings of the parents and an obvious concern for the welfare of each individual member of the student body.

It is the responsibility of the assistant principal to clearly communicate to the faculty and students the approved practices and policies of the district and school as they apply to conduct, attendance and general deportment, and to structure a means for adequately informing the new staff members of matters concerning attendance, disciplinary requirements of the school, acquainting them with the procedures they are to employ in subscribing to these regulations. The assistant principal will communicate with counselors concerning the students who show evidence of establishing patterns of behavior which are indicative of serious or sustained conflict with teachers, peers or school regulations, and is responsible for establishing a system for the early notification of parents/guardians of those students whose records have reflected attendance or tardy patterns indicative of potential problems. In addition, this position will assist staff members in resolving conflicts with students in a manner which is supportive to teachers but fair and equitable to the individual student; and will supervise the proper preparation of the documentation to be utilized in presenting the facts which are essential to affording a student due process at district mandated or other hearings. The assistant principal will provide supervision of students' behavior at all assemblies and programs conducted during school hours, and in conjunction with the members of the school's administration and staff, will maintain a system of control at all major school events sponsored outside the regular school day

In cooperation with the principal, the assistant principal helps in the implementation of such activities essential for staff development as inservice programs, lectures and meetings, assists the principal in the formulation and implementation of the general school policies of the high school, and offers reinforcement to the staff in the observance of these policies through consistent interpretation and application of these procedures. The assistant principal aids the principal in the selection of the general staff and in the various assignments of these members, being sensitive to the needs of the staff and reacting to these needs in a reasonable manner; coordinates all innovative practices, procedures and programs emanating from the office of the principal in order to engender the support and understanding required for their successful implementation and operation, and participates in the supervision of school personnel as assigned by the principal. Furthermore, the assistant principal serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the principal; assumes responsibility for professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state and national meetings, through enrollment in advance courses and the like; and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Abide by the Code of Ethics for the Teaching Profession as established by the Idaho State Board of Education, the Board Policies and procedures of the District and the terms and provisions of the Standard Teachers' Contract;
  • Compliance with the requirements of Idaho Code with regard to teacher conduct, including but not limited to the manner in which suspected instances of child abuse or suspected student suicidal tendencies are addressed;
  • Adhere to confidentiality with regard to student information;
  • Attend faculty meetings and conferences and participate in in-service activities and other professional growth opportunities;
  • Establish and maintain good working habits including punctuality;
  • Implement the beliefs, mission statement, objectives and parameters of the District's strategic plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a current Idaho Administrator's Certificate with endorsement as a school principal;
  • Must have three years successful teaching experience;
  • Capable of accomplishing identified Performance Responsibilities;
  • Must be able to communicate proficiently in English including both verbal and written communication with peers, supervisors, patrons, parents/guardians, and students;
  • Ability to read and understand work related materials;
  • Able to accomplish simple mathematical concepts including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;
  • Ability to observe and monitor student activities and conduct throughout the instructional day.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;

  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.;
  • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping;
  • Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the District Regional Director in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
