Washington and Lee University is Hiring a Prospect Research Analyst Near Lexington, VA

The Prospect Research Analyst works strategically with Advancement Research and Strategy team members to provide research data and support to Development, Law School Advancement and Alumni Engagement. They are responsible for prospect identification, screening, data mining, entry, and analysis to identify individuals and organizations with the potential to contribute financially or engage in volunteer leadership. The Prospect Research Analyst reports to the Director of Advancement Research and Strategy and collaborates with colleagues in University Advancement to help meet the goals of the division.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides biographical, financial, corporate, foundation, and other types of research proactively and as requested utilizing best practices. Works with gift officers to inform them of data availability and significant data changes, as well as how to request pertinent prospect research.
  • In partnership with the Associate Director, manages a formalized proactive prospect identification system for identifying new leadership gifts suspects and prospects using a variety of techniques. Maintains and enhances a rating process for evaluating financial capacity, inclination and engagement.
  • Manages the general W&L and top prospect Google Alerts ensuring pertinent information is updated and relayed to gift officers and/or Director of Prospect Development. This includes biographical, professional and fundraising updates.
  • Uses industry best practice and technologies to streamline Advancement Operations and Prospect Research/Development processes. Completes necessary electronic database screening and analytics processes consistent with industry best practices.
  • Produces high-quality, comprehensive donor profiles for the president and university administration, using information from University records, publicly available information, and subscription resources on donors and other prospects. Creates a systematic process to capture and report the data from the database into the profile.
  • Produces research for reports and meeting bios for University leadership and gift officers. Administers a systematic method for producing materials and trains the gift officers and administrative support staff on how to execute.
  • Proactively looks through contact reports and daily gift reports for potential leadership prospects, major changes (relationships, employment, financial, etc) and/or prospect research opportunities. Share updates with appropriate staff.
  • Analyzes gifts, wealth screens, financial data and employment data to identify new leadership prospects for the Discovery Pool and provide reports to the Director of to aid in management and prioritization of assignments.
  • Supports the prospect research program with quarterly proactive and as-requested prospect research for assigned prospects. this includes assigned prospects and those in the Discovery Pool.
  • Conducts in-depth research on undergraduate and law new incoming parents and reunion classes annually.
  • Supports all of University Advancement including Development, Law Advancement, Alumni Engagement, and Special Events, building productive working relationships across units.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Two or more years' experience in prospect development role or non-profit environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency with relational databases, hands-on experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, and advanced internet search technique is required. Experience with information management, electronic screening tools, and The Raiser's Edge is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in writing clearly and concisely
  • Ability to appropriately use and manage sensitive and confidential data
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to work well under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to analyze and utilize data and to make it available to others in a user-friendly format;
  • Ability and desire to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Pay: $59,038 - Pay Commensurate with Experience
