Job Description Summary: This position is responsible for designing entirely new product offerings, and to evaluate current products to find incremental improvements on designs in an established market space, while adhering to and not infringing upon existing patents. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Designs new bulk material handling and flow systems for railcars. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research & development programs for new products and product lines; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; Ability to standardize and simplify tools and materials needed to accomplish multiple designs. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs. Prepares and maintains research and development reports outlining process changes and engineering revisions to update customers and comply with regulatory standards. Submits reports, designs, and patents to a federal agency. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, sometimes with minimal advance notice. Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to be flexible, listen to internal and external customer thoughts and opinions, and work with others Ability to present in front of stakeholders Attention to detail and ability to identify and solve problems as they arise Strong oral and written communication skills Must be able to develop and maintain good customer relations Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent General experience in railroad cars and equipment Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: Operations, Machining, General Fabrication, Fiberglass experience Familiar with bulk commodity and material handling equipment and operations Experience in other design and engineering roles and functions Excellent written/oral communication skills, influencing and interpersonal skills Ability to work with a variety of teams covering multiple skillsets Strong Project Management skills Wabtec Corporation is committed to taking on the world’s toughest challenges.
