Job SummaryUnder close supervision, utilize laboratory information systems to accurately register patients.
Examples Of Essential Functions
- Accurately enter patient name and demographic data, referring physician and other necessary billing information into LIS.
- Performs data entry functions with a minimum error rate, as determined by lab protocols.
- Call physicians’ offices for information not supplied on requisition.
- Interpret specimen site description and clinical impression/diagnosis and accurately enter data into LIS.
- Determine topography and enter data.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports.
- Provide backup assistance in specimen receiving or other clerical areas as requested.
- Adherence to Safety Regulations.
DesirableSecretarial or clerical, previous medical billing, and data processing experience.
Knowledge
- Basic computer and work processing applications
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Understanding of anatomy and physiology
- Client care, QA, and safety practices
- Data processing and billing principles and techniques
- Operate a personal computer including word processing
- Type a minimum of 60 wpm
- Accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Operate dictation equipment, microfiche, copiers, calculators, multi-line telephone, and facsimile equipment
- Schedule, organize and complete work in accordance with company deadlines
- Understand and follow specifications and instruction
- Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff, management, and external customer
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records
