Work as a team member of an enterprise support team, providing on-site and remote support for Red Hat Linux servers and workstations at multiple locations. Install new/rebuild existing Red Hat servers and workstations. Configure server and workstation hardware, peripherals, services, SAN storage and local storage, perform backups and restoration in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Write bash and Ansible scripts to automate system administration and maintenance tasks. Install vendor software and scientific open-source packages. Apply Red Hat and other software patches/updates. Write and review IT policies and procedures for both use and security. Responsible for evaluating new hardware and software needs along with associated costs. Create and maintain computer system network topography diagrams. Work with management to ensure compliance with security protocols. Maintain documentation on the operations and configurations. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
This is a professional and technical position primarily responsible for the vulnerability and compliance management LINUX workstations and servers in the organization. Incident management on an as needed basis and data collection within the environment for the purposes of informing security related decisions are secondary responsibilities. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing vulnerability scans, system updates and upgrades, evaluating and providing assessments of systems using industry standard tools, documenting, and reviewing current processes providing guidance to tier 2 and 3 support personnel for hardware and software operating system issues.
