Job Description As a key member of the Chicago Department of Public Health, the Grants Research Specialist is fundamental to the ability of the Disease Control Bureau programs to meet federal grant goals, objectives, and critical benchmarks through their expertise in grant writing, research and expenses tracking. This full-time, onsite, salaried position works in collaboration with various Bureau members across the Department to secure both public and private funding sources to continue serving the citizens of Chicago.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Grant Research. Researches and identifies available grant opportunities through public and private agencies. Provides recommendations and strategies on prospective funding opportunities to program leadership. Prepares grant applications and proposals, including program concepts, budgets, and associated work/project timelines for program implementation. Reviews grant applications to make sure proposed activities comply with funder requirements.
Grant Administration . Assists in monitoring Bureau grant-funded programs, including cross-Bureau funding. Works with program staff on implementation and ensures compliance with funding source reporting requirements. Conducts grant monitoring readiness goal achievement through the grant cycle for all grant funding streams. Coordinates project timelines with approved budget expenditures, ensuring the budget timelines coincide with project timelines.
Public Liaison. Participates in local, state, regional and federal conferences regarding performance evaluation and improvement, program directives, and funding. Builds and maintains relationships with funding agencies and organizations.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a directly related field, plus two (2) years of grants preparation, community outreach, or project management experience
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, AND ABILITIES
Two years of federal direct or pass-through grants management experience highly preferred.
Previous experience developing program budget reports for compliance with grant funded programs
Previous experience in a position which requires preparing reports, budgets, and grant applications
Previous experience coordinating and monitoring the implementation of programs within regulatory guidelines
Previous experience managing the completion of grant and regulatory requirements across multiple programs and team
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Previous project management experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel computer software applications
