Pay Grade: Entry: $11.76 entry

JOB SUMMARY
This position monitors the work activities of second or third shift Direct Care Assistants (DCAs) providing services to persons in group homes.
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Coordinates activities with other staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Ensures staffing levels are maintained to ensure program services are provided in accordance with persons’ needs and applicable guidelines; ensures DCA staff perform directed duties.
  • Contacts Group Home Manager in the event of staff absences and in the event of emergency.
  • Assists staff as needed in the delivery of care.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff.
  • Ensures food is prepared in compliance with menus.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of individual information.
  • Schedules and reschedules medical appointments; transports persons to medical appointments.
  • Transports person to acquire non-medical goods and services.
  • Inspects home for cleanliness and safety.
  • Purchase food and personal items for persons served.
  • Performs general light housekeeping; prepares materials and supplies; maintains equipment in homes.
  • Completes required training and maintains related documentation.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records.
  • Maintains certification in CPR, First Aid, Medication Assistance, and CPI.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary; not otherwise specified.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of agency policies and of Alabama Department of Mental Health and Medicaid guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the nature of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of residential services principles.
  • Knowledge of available community resources.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Director of Residential Services supervises and assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include agency policies, Alabama Department of Mental Health guidelines, and Medicaid guidelines. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related supervisory and administrative duties. Strict regulations combined with the unique needs of individuals served contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to monitor the provision of residential services on an assigned shift. Successful performance contributes to the delivery of effective services to individuals.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has functional supervision over assigned Direct Care Assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations and a high school diploma or GED.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license and good driving record.
