Job Description
The Lab Coordinator, Makerspace for Peabody College will work with the Collaborative for STEM Education and Outreach (CSEO) as an innovation coordinator for this campus resource. This position will manage and oversee a small-scale makerspace that is utilized by the middle and high school student participants in CSEO programs, as well as Peabody College undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. The Lab Coordinator will demonstrate expertise in operation and maintenance of equipment in the space, maintain adequate stocks of consumables, and engage with users in a variety of educational and scientific contexts. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the CSEO, the Makerspace Lab Coordinator will provide organized resource management to ensure efficient and fair access to equipment for all users of the Makerspace.
As part of Peabody College, the CSEO comprises a multidisciplinary group of scientists and educators who work to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education through novel approaches and collaborations. The CSEO creates and enhances partnerships, develops and shares resources, and provides opportunities that engage K-12 students and educators in the process of STEM discovery. The CSEO envisions a world in which the process of science is accessible to everyone.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with campus policies and procedures that relate to working with minors, operating a safe laboratory workspace, ordering and costing, and managing facilities
  • Provide expertise and instruction in equipment use and safety procedures
  • Maintain and document equipment certification and supply stocks
  • Manage and log facility calendar and usage
  • Diagnose and fix common issues with equipment using available resources, improvising solutions when necessary
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED is necessary.
  • Proficiency in CAD and slicing software is necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in working with filament-based 3D printers, laser cutters, and basic Makerspace equipment is necessary.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is necessary.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
