The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in Annapolis, Maryland is looking to hire a full-time Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations to join the Donor Engagement & Strategic Partnerships Team to collaborate, manage, execute, and drive team success..

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located next to the beautiful grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association & Foundation moved into the new Fluegel Alumni Center , which was built on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and the United States Naval Academy Foundation are two independent, not-for-profit corporations sharing a single president and CEO and operating as a fully integrated organization in support of the Naval Academy and its mission. This position pays a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, when applicable. The Donor Engagement & Strategic Partnerships Team includes the following aspects of the Development Team:

  • Strategic Sponsorships

The Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations position is a full-time, exempt professional reporting to the Executive Director, Donor Engagement & Strategic Partnerships, and works collaboratively across the Enterprise and with Naval Academy stakeholders.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will:

  • Plan and execute strategic activities that increase major corporate and foundation support through gifts, grants, and sponsorship
  • Ensure that corporate approaches, from identification to cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship, are highly strategic and coordinated across internal and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and relationship manager for organizations that wish to partner with the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in meaningful ways, facilitating appropriate introductions and the exchange of ideas and information that serve to advance strategic priorities, as well as the interests of the prospective donor
  • Lead a team towards the generation of significant philanthropy from corporate and foundation partners, including the formulation of goals and the tracking of ongoing progress
  • Manage a pool of foundation and corporate prospects, including the identification and prioritization of prospective partners
  • Develop relationships with key foundation and corporate administrators and executives through personal visits, correspondence, and attendance at cultivation events, etc.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to identify programs and initiatives that lend themselves to corporate partnerships
  • Provide leadership and support across prospect research, strategy development, contact and ongoing interaction with portfolio prospects, proposal preparation and submission, orchestration of site visits, partner recognition, partner updates, and reports
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development and submission of significant corporate and foundation proposals of the highest quality, including writing, editing, and other guidance that maximizes the likelihood of success
  • Maintain knowledge of company and industry dynamics, personnel changes, stock market performance, foundation funding, and all related activities and changes that may affect corporate funding
  • Synthesize Association sponsorship needs with corporate partnerships and foundation funding portfolios
  • Manage the sponsorship section of our CRM platform. Integrate strategic "asks" across the enterprise
  • Develops/manage an enterprise approach to data analysis around enterprise sponsorships and CFR activities
  • Travel as appropriate to provide adequate contact with the prospect portfolio and to maintain a sustained level of corporate and foundation support for the Naval Academy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION

  • Approaches each day with grit and optimism, works with enthusiasm, thinks with intellect and acts with honesty and humility
  • Experience raising funds from foundations and corporations and a deep understanding of corporate and foundation fundraising approaches, from identification to cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship
  • An ability to plan and think entrepreneurially and strategically
  • An ability to facilitate introductions and exchange ideas and information in a manner that serves to advance institutional priorities as well as the interests of the donor
  • An ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including corporate and foundation prospects, development colleagues, and academic, administrative, and Naval Academy leadership
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills and an ability to develop and oversee proposal production of the highest quality
  • A detail-oriented approach and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across platforms and stakeholders
  • An ability to effectively plan and supervise the work of others.
  • A firm understanding of CRM tools

A bachelor's degree and at least seven years of experience raising funds from corporations and foundations, preferably in a higher education setting. The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds.
