Job SummaryThe Safety and Occupational Health Representative performs safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety program enforcement for Contractor operations. It is the responsibility of the Safety Specialist to ensure that all work performed is done in a safe manner. Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions. Directs entity's safety programs to protect employees against harm and maintain safe working conditions. Formulates and suggests work safety standards and enforces procedures. Directs activities of safety committee and may provide safety training. Advises management on problem correction. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary skills to provide oversight and management of safety protocols and procedures, provide requirement trainings and maintain compliance standards, plan, and provide improvement procedures. Essential Functions
Develops, implements, and manages safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, installation, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT)
Performs worksite analysis and evaluation of established safety protocols
Practices enforcement and continual evaluation of the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program in compliance with local and federal safety regulations
Uses Enterprise Safety Application Management System (ESAMS) to maintain record of all accidents, mishaps, or near miss incidents which result in hospitalization, loss of life, amputation, loss of an eye, and impact to the environment or property, and to provide required reports IAW Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) regulations
Develops and fosters a safe working environment and workplace culture by encouraging open discussion of safety concerns and issues and identification of potential hazards by employees
Attends safety meetings and councils, participate in and administer safety campaigns, educational and reference material, safety bulletins and postings, and other safety directives as requested
Provides oversight and proper handling and storage directives for HAZMAT and other sensitive items in storage
Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.
Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards, etc.
Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL's) associated with assigned functional work areas / process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals.
Adhere to government, contract, and company policies and procedures.
Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.
Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
The employee may be required to frequently handle equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
Must be able to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies as applicable to position.
Ability to work inside and/or outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp, and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies.
Be able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces.
Adhere to PTi quality, safety, and environmental standards
QualificationsExperience:
Three (3) years of experience in the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) field within the past five (5) years preferably as a lead or in a management capacity
OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) experience
Experience with and knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management systems, certifications are a plus
Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Visio experience is a plus
Skills
Must demonstrate the ability to effectively read and write in English, and comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical tasks, and communicate effectively.
Ability to write effective procedure manuals and business correspondence, and produce required reports
Attention to detail and excellent follow up skills
Certificate, License, Registration, Etc.
US Citizen
Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if required.
Active OSHA 30-hour safety training certificate
Successful completion of WMS training, OSHA compliance, and associated DLA SOP
Completion of company mandated training applicable to position.
Possess a valid Driver's License
Education
Minimum Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in a relevant field, or a combination of both education and work experience or formal training (minimum high school graduate/GED plus experience)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hazardous materiel storage and shipments
Military or DLA experience
