Urban Recovery House is Hiring a Director of Nursing - Chemical Dependency Near Brooklyn, NY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Nursing (DON) will plan and coordinate nursing services with those of the medical and administrative systems. The Director of Nursing will participate as a member of the management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with attention to the role, functions, and operations of the facilities nursing services. The position is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and overseeing nursing operations, patient care, resource management, and fiscal management.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the 24-hour management of the Nursing Department and assuring that the daily tasks of the Nursing Department are carried out in accordance with facilities policies in compliance with State, Federal Regulations, and JCAHO and CARF Accreditation Standards.
  • Consult with CEO and Medical Director on a routine basis in support of organizational mission and vision.
  • Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice in the facilities.
  • Responsible for staff performance, staff recruitment, staff retention, and staff development.
  • Orients all new nursing personnel on the shift.
  • Arrange adequate staffing on the shift.
  • Take every opportunity to educate those registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and document it in their files.
  • Formally discipline those employees failing in any aspect of their job description.
  • Create an objective, time specific, correction plan that the employee can understand and follow.
  • Support and promote an environment and culture of professional nursing behaviors at all times across the facilities.
  • Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
  • Participates in meetings and committees.
  • Monitor and evaluate all nursing activities including staff development, risk and safety management, compliance with regulatory standards, policy and procedure development/implementation and performance improvement activities.
  • Develop and maintain staff nurse and nurse manager training and education materials on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure nursing practices utilize evidence-based practice, regulations and performance improvement to guide clinical decision making related to existing and future program implementation.
  • Conduct and/or contribute to staff evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Plans, develops, and implements a budget process for staffing.
  • Comply with all confidentiality and client rights, standards and policies.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
