Medical Biller and Collections

Upstate HomeCare – Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Clinton, Rochester, and Syracuse, NY and the Surrounding areas

Job description

As a Medical Biller you will be responsible for a variety of financial and non- financial tasks to help guarantee the company’s revenues. You will be responsible for the billing and collecting of the medical services the company provides to our patients.

The position requires that you communicate effectively with team members to solidify a cohesive and productive work environment.

Daily duties and responsibilities (additional duties not listed):

  • Ability to learn and understand all types of insurances.
  • Create, process and bill electronic & paper claims.
  • Work with aging reports to keep accounts current.
  • Utilize Insurance Portals as well as phone calls to reconcile outstanding account balances.
  • Ability to learn and analyze Insurance denials to properly reprocess claims timely.
  • Accurately provide insurance balance information to patients.
  • Process and Post credit card payments from patients to reconcile OOP responsibilities.
  • Manage incoming phone calls from patients and Insurance companies.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office work. Eventual Hybrid work from home opportunity.
  • Overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years customer service and medical billing experience
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent prioritizing and time management skills
  • Comfortable to work in a high volume, fast paced environment.
  • Self-directed, but also able to work in a team environment.
  • Math aptitude
  • Knowledge or MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related health care experience with a focus on billing and collections; insurance reimbursement
  • Understanding/Knowledge of HCPC codes; insurance guidelines; ICD-10
  • Knowledge of NYS Medicaid; Medicare Part B and third-party payers.
