Job Description

JOB TITLE:
Office Associate-Monteith Shop
JOB PURPOSE:
The Monteith Shop is a research group at the University of Wyoming that explores how species like mule deer, bighorn sheep, and moose make a living in their environments. We are a team of graduate students and research scientists who design and carry out research projects, communicate our findings to multiple stakeholder groups, and work in close collaboration with partners at numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations (e.g., Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Wyoming Wild Sheep Foundation, etc.). We value effective teamwork, innovative research, and strong partnerships with partners and collaborators. We seek a detail-oriented and dependable person to assist with the varied tasks that are essential for a large, active research group to run smoothly.
As an administrative assistant/lab coordinator, you will work either independently or in close collaboration with numerous students, faculty, partners, and members of the public on diverse types of projects. This position allows for the opportunity for, but does not require, engagement in research-related tasks including fieldwork, paper discussions, lab meetings, public engagement, outreach, etc.
This position reports to principal investigator Dr. Kevin Monteith. The administrative assistant/lab coordinator will work 40 hrs/week in the typical 9 am - 5 pm work day, although we offer some amount of flexibility to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Spearhead reporting to supportive agencies.
  • Organize logistics for the research group, including travel arrangements, scheduling, and supply procurement.
  • Coordinate and facilitate in-person outreach events, connecting our research to diverse stakeholders and partners.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the various brands, companies, and organizations that help us work.
  • Perform special projects, as directed.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Contribute to writing and securing grants.
  • Develop and implement public-facing communications, such as K-12 engagement, public-facing research briefs, maintaining the group's website (monteithshop.org), and social media.
  • Assist with field research, if desired.
  • Develop special projects, if desired.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus, with flexibility to work at home up to 2 days/week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years progressively responsible work-related experience
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience with grant reporting.
  • A bachelor's degree in an ecology, environment, or natural resource-related field.
  • Experience with science communication, especially with hunter stakeholders.
  • Experience with grant reporting and permitting.
  • Experience with professional social media accounts.
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience with web design platforms such as JavaScript, ArcGIS, Wordpress.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate working with a large team, as well as with numerous administrators, grant organizations, and partners.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, both with colleagues and members of the public.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Slack).
  • Either a background knowledge of wildlife, natural resources, and ecology, or an interest to learn about the fields.
