GENERAL NOTES:
The Office of Sponsored Projects(OSP) serves as the coordinating office for externally funded research and sponsored projects at The University of Texas at Austin. The mission of OSP is to assist faculty and professional research staff in their efforts to secure and ensure proper stewardship of external funding. We do that by assisting research faculty and staff with the following: proposal review, authorization, and submission; award negotiations and acceptance; account management; close-out, reports, audits, collection; professional development and education; export control, and research compliance.

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for coordinating and conducting training, professional development, office and campus communication, developing internal training practices, and creating and implementing the UT Research Certificate Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and implements the new UT Research Certificate Program (both Post-Award and pre-award tracks).

  • Trains research and administrative personnel on various aspects of proposals submission, including process and electronic means of submission including both UT processes (UTRMS) and sponsor processes.Development of internal OSP trainings as training needs evolve through process and policy changes.Trainings may include visits to campus by speakers and/or webinars.Evaluate OSP and training programs and disseminate results.

  • Implements annual survey.Facilitates the review of current OSP Standard Operating Procedures and coordinates with internal OSP staff to revise and document current processes.

  • Assists with CRA study group in the fall and spring semesters.

  • Provides feedback to supervisor on team on policy updates and training developments.

  • Special projects as assigned by OSP management.

  • Participates in professional development and attend conferences to remain current with standard and overall University, local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.Participation in the Association of Research Administrators at UT Austin and communicate pertinent procedure and policy changes related to research administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.

  • Five or more years of professional experience in research administration or a related area with three or more years in a management level position.

  • Strong demonstrated managerial and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated personnel management, motivation and development experience.

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the overall process of proposal, award and post award processes.

  • Demonstrated, advanced knowledge of general computer programs including Microsoft Office and development of presentation and tracking programs.

  • Initiative and creativity, problem-solving skills, ability and willingness to make independent judgements quickly, with the ability and awareness to seek input as necessary.

  • Experience with systemimplementation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle pressure and difficult situations while maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • Ability to effectively provide leadership and guidance to team members and contribute to the overall mission of OSP, The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas System. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • More than the required years of experience and advanced degree.

  • Certified Research Administrator with research administration experience at UT Austin or another institution of higher education.

  • Experience with Post-Award research administration.

SALARY RANGE:

$74,000 depending on qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Flexible work hours between 7 am and 6 pm

  • OSP employees have the option for remote work; employee must meet all of the qualifications outlined in the University's Flexible Work Arrangement Policy and submit all required documentation to participate in remote work.
