University of Southern California is Hiring a Fire/Life Safety Technician I Near Los Angeles, CA

The USC department of Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) - O&M Fire Protection is seeking Fire/Life Safety Technician I to join its team.
THE WORK YOU WILL DO
The Fire/Life Safety Technician I is responsible for performing and assisting in servicing, repairing, inspecting and testing fire systems.
The Fire/Life Safety Technician I:
  • Assists with the testing of fire systems according to current codes and regulations. Assists with the inspection of fire systems before, during and after construction projects. Makes recommendations regarding both system installations and service requirements.
  • Assists with the inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishing equipment.
  • Enables and disables fire systems for construction projects, events and maintenance
  • Responds to fire/life safety system activations, alarm, trouble and supervisory calls. Stands in as fire watch when fire systems are impaired.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on fire systems. Assists in troubleshooting and repair of fire alarm and fire protection systems.
  • Coordinates with contractors for fire system additions and changes.
  • Maintains current knowledge on existing and pending legislation within the industry. Ensures program design(s) reflect the most recent standards and regulations
  • Tracks fire systems impairments. Accounts for the operational status of all fire systems. Enters fire system testing documentation into the fire system database.
  • Maintains stock levels and storage of new and used fire system equipment. Keeps accurate records of materials and time. Ensures proper use of resources and time.
  • Provides customer service and user training, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
  • In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to "report to duty" in accordance with the university's Emergency Operations Plan and/or the employee's department's emergency response and/or recovery plans. Familiarity with those plans and regular training to implement those plans is required. During or immediately following an emergency, the employee will be notified to assist in the emergency response efforts, and mobilize other staff members if needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
The work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday 6AM-2:30PM OR Monday to Friday 12PM-8:30PM; however, work schedules may change at any time to accommodate business needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the position of Fire/Life Safety Technician I meets the following preferred criteria:
  • Specialized/technical training
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills. Experience with Notifier alarm systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for the position of Fire/Life Safety Technician I must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • High school or equivalent
  • One Year of Fire/Life Safety experience
  • Possess basic knowledge of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
  • Valid California's driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Must obtain Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Regulation 4 certification within (1) Year of employment
The hourly rate range for this position is $24.01 - $27.29.
