What to expect:
Under direct supervision of the Regional Manager of Education, the Health Educator facilitates youth leadership and/or peer education programming that increases access to sex education for targeted groups in the assigned region. Delivers human sexuality education to diverse learners and promotes reproductive health services to meet the goals of the Education Department. Health Educators create and foster an environment of diversity and inclusion for patients and employees and are advocates in implementing our mission of "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all." They may perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Can vary to accommodate community events and outreach work that may take place on evenings or weekends.
Responsibilities:
This position will impact us with the following contributions:
  • Deliver high quality, research-based sexuality education programs to diverse audiences in community.
  • Assist in the development of culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, inclusive and trauma-informed content that is medically accurate and pedagogically sound on a variety of human sexuality topics including but not limited to contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS prevention, safer sex practices, puberty and adolescent development, sexual orientation, sexual decision making and effective communication around issues of human sexuality.
  • Build and maintains authentic and reciprocal partnerships with community partners, stakeholders and others invested in young people with priority placed on educational needs of targeted groups and promote the mission of PPNCS and the goals of the Education Department.
  • Build and maintain authentic and reciprocal partnerships with health services and health center staff.
  • Participate in, and assist in planning for, outreach events that offer education to community members about various sexual health topics and the services available through Planned Parenthood North Central States.
  • Use a variety of modalities (web research, professional reading and training, PPFA affiliate information, and collaborative resources) to stay current regarding sexuality education topics, state, and national trends related to sexuality and social issues that reflect the mission of PPNCS and the vision of the Education Department.
  • Support staff in the assessment needs of target audiences (both internal and external), state appropriate educational outcomes, create and consistently implement evaluation tools based on outcome statements.
  • Articulate PPNCS' mission, promote the goal of the Education Department and communicate effectively about human sexuality issues with diverse audiences during educational presentations, in collaborative meetings, with professional groups, and with the media.
  • Respond quickly and thoroughly to community requests for sexuality programming and/or information.
  • Represent PPNCS and the Education Department professionally to community collaborative meetings, boards and advisory committees.
  • Demonstrate collaboration with each member of the Education Staff that will build a team characterized by expertise, creativity, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Complete internal paperwork, including but not limited to timesheets, program reporting and outreach documentation within the timeframe established by Education Leadership Team.
  • Dedicated time to professional skill development around Diversity Equity and Inclusion work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience in youth development, health educator, public health, or related area
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all PPNCS business and activities on and away from the job. Must provide proof of adequate automobile insurance coverage if required to drive on PPNCS business
