Radiology Services
UHealth at Doral
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (N) (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. This position will promote optimal patient outcomes for patients on the diagnostic radiology services and provide clinical care coordination to move patients quickly, safely, and efficiently in our present health care system. The roles will involve diagnostic and interventional procedures, including contrast administration supervision, mammography, and nuclear medicine at LFMC. The APRN:
  • Create a diagnostic and interventional radiology procedure manual detailing the procedures and the procedural requirements for each of the hospital facilities were the Diagnostic Radiologists practice.
  • Create order sets for each hospital facility for the imaging service for pre-procedure, procedure, post procedure and discharge. All orders for controlled substances do not fall within the Scope of APRN practice and must be written by the imaging Radiologists.
  • Review phone/fax request for procedure and completes work up check list.
  • Identify/Determine inclusion/exclusion criteria for procedures.
  • Assessing and managing all imaging patients based on procedure requested.
  • Triage Cases with Attending-communicates relevant information to the diagnostic and interventional team.
  • Reviews Images with Attending as required.
  • Coordinate special needs/requirement as it relates to specific procedure such as anesthesia or MAC if required.
  • Determine necessity of pre-medication and if any patient current medications need to be stopped prior to procedure or another medication substituted in its places. Communication with the patient's primary care physician for care coordination for pre-existing medical conditions that must addressed prior to or after the Diagnostic and interventional procedure.
  • Determine medications which must be withheld prior to the procedure and order alternative medication as required with the scope APRN Prescriptive Authority Protocol dependent upon the hospital facility.
  • Evaluate existing pre-procedure laboratory value, CXR, EKG or other testing if required for medical and/or anesthesia clearance. If studies do not exist APRN will order.
  • Return Chart to area's patient access rep to schedule and obtain utilization management/insurance/or other financial clearance if required.
  • Pre study assessment & post study follow-up for diagnostic and interventional imaging patients.
  • Patient Education (pre/post) procedure including calls from patient regarding procedural question or possible post procedure complications. Perform telephone triage on any call from patient's regarding post procedural complication and notify Attending ASAP.
  • Conducts patient history & physical (modified) and systems evaluation to determine readiness for the procedure.
  • Gives instructions as related to specific procedures.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and makes recommendations accordingly.
  • Coordinates referrals and transfers or both external and in-house patients if required.
  • Tracks and maintains appropriate records and documentation.
  • Attends rounds and conferences as appropriate.
  • Rounds and visits pre/post Diagnostic and Interventional procedure. Writes discharge and 23 hour admit to the hospitalist service if required.
  • Maintains follow-up on all Radiology Interventional and diagnostic procedures as well as "no show".
  • Provides pre and post procedure teaching.
  • Provides necessary in-service programs for appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates with Referral physicians and primary care physicians regarding follow up on referred patient cases.
  • Facilitates continuity of care-by organizing, conducting, and participating in patient care conferences.
  • Assists the Radiologist in having emergency and elective procedures scheduled
  • Orders consultations with other services as required.
  • Takes and active role in patient and family education and writes discharge orders.
  • Places follow-up telephone calls the following day to check on the status of the post-procedure patients.
  • Will see patients in weekly clinic and record patient progress in Uchart.
  • Oversee and coordinate all Radiology AI initiatives at LFMC imaging.
  • Acts as manager for nurses at LFMC imaging, including coordinating, overseeing and ensuring staff coverage during regular hours and on-call (weekday nights and weekends).
  • Examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals.
  • Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
  • May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests.
  • Advises patients about continuing care.
  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories. Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida ARNP License
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
