Biswas Lab Position Title: Research Technician - Biswas Lab Job Family Group: Professional Staff Job Description Summary: Perform technical laboratory work to assist in the establishment of an active, extramurally funded research laboratory. This position involves preparation of media and solutions and working with pathogenic (BSL2) bacteria. Specifically, the person will be involved with the construction of mutant strains, and genetic/phenotypic characterization of the mutants. The person will also maintain records, logs, and reports to document laboratory activities; order of supplies and equipment; and perform laboratory upkeep (cleaning, minor preventive maintenance). Job Description: Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate's Degree in Biology, Science or other related field.
Work Experience : At least six months of laboratory experience in microbiology or biochemistry research.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education : B.S. in microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other life science discipline.
Work Experience : Experience with recombinant DNA technology, protein expression/purification, and general microbiological techniques.
Job Duties Outlined:
Conduct science experiments using microbiology or molecular Biology techniques as directed by other lab members. Duties include, but are not limited to, making media, setting up lab glassware (or plastic ware) for use in experiments or preparing lab waste materials for disposal.
Generate preliminary data for lab grant submissions. Maintain records, logs, and reports documenting laboratory activities.
Order lab supplies and equipment.
Prepare glassware for washing. Load and unload dishwashers, prepare clean glassware for autoclaving and drying. Load and unload items into autoclaves and drying ovens. Hand-wash items which cannot be washed in dishwasher. Return clean items to labs and put them away.
Become the lab power user of the BLI system and perform experiments using this equipment when requested and as directed by other lab members.
Provide laboratory upkeep (cleaning, minor preventive maintenance).
