Other Conditions:

Nine-month of state funding provided annually. The anticipated start date is 01 August 2024 or as mutually agreed. Pending position clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program 
  2. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses
  3. Mentor and support students and postdoctoral researchers
  4. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and in other fora as appropriate
  5. Serve the department, school, university, and scientific and professional communities

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A doctorate (at the time of appointment) from a college or university of recognized standing and in a field relevant to the position
  2. Demonstrated ability as a teacher
  3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement
  4. Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Demonstrated capacity for creative, high-quality research
  7. Experience with the development and/or use of oceanographic instrumentation, integration of instruments onto vehicle platforms, fixed and mobile sensor network infrastructure, ocean/marine technology, or related topics

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Established extramurally funded projects and/or prior success in securing extramural funding
  2. Licensure as a Professional Engineer
  3. Practical and/or professional experience related to ocean/marine technology and engineering
  4. Experience collecting oceanographic data in the field or on research vessel cruises
  5. Demonstrated action aimed at fostering an inclusive, respectful, equitable, inclusive and welcoming work environment
