Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician II will support the CU Medicine Psychiatry Clinics in the Community Practice Division. They will be responsible for providing patient care under the direct supervision of a psychiatrist. The technician will operate transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) machines to provide TMS treatments to patients with major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder in the CU Medicine Faculty Practice TMS Program. The Patient Care Technician II will also follow research protocols to provide TMS for experimental indications such as PTSD, substance use disorders, and disorders of executive functioning. They will provide support and psychoeducation to patients receiving TMS for psychiatric conditions.

The Patient Care Technician II will also be trained in providing patient care under the direct supervision of a psychiatrist during Esketamine treatment for major depressive disorder.

The Patient Care Technician II will also be responsible for scheduling patient appointments, performing patient safety screenings, and helping to complete paperwork to help patients access TMS and Esketamine treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

* Prepare patients for ascertainment of motor-evoked potential.

* Operate and control the settings of the electrophysiologic recording device.

* Measure, calculate, and log recorded electrophysiologic information.

* Independently administer TMS according to clinical and research protocols.

* Ascertain motor evoked potential under supervision.

* Operate and control settings of electrophysiologic recording device.

* Measure, calculate, and log recorded electrophysiologic information.

* Correctly position the TMS coil.

* Understand the potential for adverse effects and notify the psychiatrist if any observed.

* Assist in the management of adverse effects, including seizures.

* Administer validated rating scales to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.

* Provide psychoeducation curriculum to patients.

* Actively participate in marketing and patient recruitment.

* Obtain insurance authorization.

* Assist psychiatrist by gathering and reviewing medical records to aid in appropriate patient selection.

* Provide any in-house required training on TMS machines.

* Participate in scheduled individual supervision, health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, staff meetings, and other required meetings.

* Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient.

* Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, immunizations.

* Effectively copes with a fast-paced environment and typical job stressors.

* Documents work processes as required.

* Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned, such as completing patient visit records, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones, taking messages, checking in patients, and scheduling patient appointments.

* Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Patient Care Tech II:

* 1 year experience in health care related field.

* High School Diploma or GED.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous experience as a TMS technician.

* 2 years related experience in a medical office setting.

* 1 year experience specific to department/clinic specialty.

* Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.

* Current MA and PCT certification (i.e., AAMA, NCCT).

* EPIC, Kronos, MS Office, Outlook, Power Point, Word Experience.

Conditions of Employment:

* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers is issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification.

* Complies with applicable University of Colorado School of Medicine, Community Practice mandatory education and training.

* Maintains all required licensure and certifications for the position.

* Must be able to work in person.

* Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Ability to interpret, communicate, and document with proper medical terminology.

* Strong knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 procedure coding.

* Ability to use various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.

* Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including physicians, leadership, and staff.

* Ability to recognize/interpret the physical exam process and record exam details.

* Ability to attest to computer proficiency and learn new computer applications.

* Ability to keyboard/type, write legibly, and accurately record information.

* Ability to analyze and interpret data.

* Ability to organize workflow, focusing on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.

* Strong organizational and time-management skills.

* Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people in stressful, fast-paced environments.

* Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.

* Ability to multitask efficiently and effectively.

* Ability to perform basic filing, office procedures, and word processing.

* Ability to adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $41,700.
