University of California Davis is Hiring a RSCH AND DEV ENGR 2 (Research and Development Engineer) Near Davis, CA

Job Summary

This position in the Department of Plant Sciences is the technical lead for the bulk stable isotope unit at the Stable Isotope Facility. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and direction of operation of seven elemental analyzer isotope-ratio mass spectrometers (EA-IRMS) at the Stable Isotope Facility. The incumbent will act as the interface between technical and data analytical staff to ensure project coordination and maintain sample throughput. The incumbent will provide data analytical support and assist junior staff in the routine maintenance of EA-IRMS systems and processing of client researcher samples. Tasks included instrument maintenance and operation, project coordination, method development, client communication, and technical training of junior staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a Natural Sciences or Engineering or related area or equivalent experience/ training.
  • Significant IRMS and elemental analyzer instrument experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in the maintenance and repair of EA-IRMS systems

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of best practices for quality control and analysis of stable isotope measurements. Familiarity with instrument control and vacuum technologies, as well as basic electrical skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office suite, primarily Excel
  • All aspects of this position require great attention to detail and organizational skills. Good written and verbal communication skills are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • M.S. in Natural Sciences or Engineering

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Familiarity with Elementar and/or Sercon instrumentation preferred.
