Optum seeks a Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Program Manager, whose responsibilities will include supporting development of processes and protocols in furtherance of the PSO’s mission of promoting patient safety. The Program Manager will support and partner with leaders at medical groups nation-wide, working closely with medical and clinical staff across Optum Health.

Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Program Manager is responsible for:
* Administration of the PSO in collaboration with and at direction of the Director of Risk Management
* Maintenance of agreements with providers for the services offered by the PSO
* The development and implementation of processes and protocols for Optum’s PSO, including managing the PSO in support of its mission of improving patient safety
* Coordinating patient safety activities of the PSO, and ensuring that such patient safety activities are consistent with the needs of contracted providers and designed to improve health care quality and patient safety
* Support reporting of PSO data and trends
* Communicating with providers contracted with the PSO regarding the PSO’s patient safety activities, analysis, and recommendations
* Support development of patient safety initiatives that address identified gaps in performance or improvement opportunities
* Ensuring compliance with, and carrying out, the requirements of the PSO’s policies and the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act and its implementing regulations (“Patient Safety Act”)
* Engaging health care expertise as needed for performing the patient safety activities of the PSO
* Consulting with organizational legal counsel as needed for the operation of the PSO and its compliance with the Patient Safety Act and other applicable laws and regulations
* Collaborating with and offering guidance to providers in the development and deployment of their patient safety activities, including the management of their Patient Safety Evaluation System
* Performing duties in accordance with UHG/Optum enterprise values, policies, and procedures
* Handles other PSO-related duties, as needed

Required Qualifications:
* Certification or licensure as a medical professional (e.g., registered nurse)
* 3 years working in patient safety, healthcare quality, or risk management experience with an emphasis in Program Administration or Program Management
* Experience with and understanding of Just Culture, Safety Science, Quality and Process Improvement, including High Reliability Organization (HRO) Principles
* Understanding of the Patient Safety Act and its requirements for PSOs
* Professional presentation experience, including experience presenting to senior leaders
* Ability to travel occasionally up to 10%
Preferred Skills:
* CPHRM, CPHQ or related certification
* Patient Safety Organization experience
* Sound foundation in Human Factors analysis and engineering
Competencies:
* Ability to work alongside all levels of organizational staff and leadership
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
* Demonstrates and promotes the tenets of a Just Culture
* Ability to prioritize and manage concurrent initiatives
* Reliable, experienced professional, able to function with minimal supervision

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
