GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Assists the physician, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assists in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Requirements:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Fill new medication orders and cassettes and prepare for review.
  • Assist in reconciliation of missing orders and doses and complete required documentation.
  • Deliver stock medications and place in appropriate storage location.
  • Complete all assigned charging and crediting functions, including from miscellaneous sources.
  • Stock medications to their appropriate locations, rotate stock as necessary and check outdates, and assist in maintaining adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain assigned inspection section and check outdates monthly.
  • Fill emergency trays, anesthesia trays, ancillary dept. stock requests, and various medication boxes.
  • Enter appropriate information-such as NDC, manufacturer, bar-code, lot #, expiration date-for each medication being packaged. Performs duties as assigned including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Assists in scheduling and maintaining work flow.
  • Reports, immediately, prescription errors and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Licensure and certifications as required by State.

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  • Utilize Pharmacy operating system.
  • Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
  • Answer telephone and triage calls to appropriate person.
  • Manage adequate inventory levels.
  • Maintain Clean Room environment per policy and procedure.
  • Strong organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Facilitate communication within the Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Customer-oriented with ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to build relationships with patients and display empathy and compassion to patients.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Pharmacy Tech program required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS ?

Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting preferred.

Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.

Prior completion of department IV training and competency.
