    Job Summary:

    The Lender 1 -Commercial/GGL Officer serves current and prospective loan customers and determines the acceptability of each customer by following the bank’s predetermined lending guidelines, company policies, standards, and procedures. They are responsible for monitoring/administering all loans in assigned portfolio. Fundamental duties include ensuring that the risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies are adhered to while maintain a high level of client responsiveness.

    General Description/Duties:

    Duties include but are not limited to the following:

    • Assist customers with loan questions or problems. Must have knowledge of United Bank products and services in order the match the customer’s needs.
    • Interviews loan customers, collects and analyzes financial data to determine creditworthiness and the merits of a specific loan request.
    • Analyze financial statements and navigate a wide variety of financial structures/credit scenarios, to determine credit risk and make timely and accurate decisions/recommendations.
    • Ensures that each approved application meets the bank’s lending standards, and loans are within the limits of a preapproved lending authority.
    • Exercise prudent credit judgement through individual loan authority, if applicable.
    • Proactively manages credit risk and exposure for an assigned portfolio including early detection of volatile industries and markets for assigned portfolio, within designated region, initiating credit modifications and risk upgrading/downgrading.
    • Keep abreast of changing business and economic developments which impact the loan portfolio, its profitability, risk management, and banking in general.
    • Establishes and negotiates terms under which credit will be extended, including cost, repayment method and collateral requirements; Communicates final deal structure, pricing, terms, and conditions to client and lending officer.
    • Collects on past due loans as well as overdrawn checking accounts that may be assigned.
    • Keeps past due loans and collateral exceptions to a minimum, as determined by management.
    • Builds effective relationships with Credit/Risk Management and Lending.
    • Provide guidance and mentoring to credit analysts in underwriting process, as well as lending assistants in the booking and maintenance of the relationships on the loan system.
    • Responsible for formal credit review processes such as monitoring as well as Credit File reviews, Audits, Compliance Reviews, ongoing as well as required periodic reviews.
    • Frequently interacts with client, verballing and in writing, on pending loan request or portfolio management actions.
    • Monitor, review, and ensure compliance on loan covenants, borrowing base certificates, and other loan documentation and requirements; Follow up and clear any exceptions on any loans in assigned portfolio.
    • Reviews assigned portfolio and related files for accuracy and completeness, all formal loan documentation, comments, and updates.
    • Primary contact with the Lender Service Provider (LSP) or the Certified Development Company (CDC)
    • Prepare Preliminary Term Sheet.
    • Prepare information (with the assistance of the Commercial Lending Officer) to be included in the Commercial Credit Memorandum (CCM) to include Sources & Uses of Funds, Community Development Information, History of the Borrower(s)/Guarantor(s), Management & Ownership of the Borrower(s)/Guarantor(s)
    • Prepare Commitment Letter.
    • Work with LSP to obtain final approval from the SBA/USDA.
    • Work with the Commercial Lending Assistant (CLA) and closing attorney during the loan closing process.
    • Manage/Administer all loans originated under the GGL Loan Programs (SBA 7(a), SBA 504, USDA B&I) in conjunction with the LSP.
    • Authenticates all post loan closing activities, including conditions precedent to closing, are accurate and complete.
    • Participates in business development, public relations, and community service activities within the community and develop business relationships with existing and potential customers.
    • Maintains current knowledge of industry regulations, requirements, and trends by attending seminars, member associations and reading trade periodicals.
    • Ensures compliance with the bank’s guidelines by obtaining exception approval signatures on loan applications when needed.
    • Position will be required to comply with all Federal and State banking laws and related regulations, to include but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
    • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the bank including opening and closing of the bank.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
    • Previous customer service experience in a banking environment is strongly preferred.
    • Requires analytical ability to evaluate credit status and make fair and impartial decisions.
    • Knowledge of State, Federal and legal regulations, and requirements.
    • Advanced knowledge of SBA/USDA SOPs preferred.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to relate well with others.
    • Demonstrate leadership, project management, team building, and time management skills.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and tactfully manage sensitive and confidential matters.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new technology.
    • Excellent quantitative and qualitative abilities.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrate creative thinking and ability to adapt to change.
    • High level of motivation and initiative.
