I. Job Summary
Provides safe and efficient patient transportation for the Emergency Department to and from Radiology. Performs other duties in support of Emergency Department goals and objectives so as to achieve “superior customer service” for patient, visitor and facility teammates.
II. Essential Job Duties
1. Transports patients and relays pertinent patient information to appropriate teammates.
2. Follows proper identification procedures to ensure transportation of the correct patient.
3. Obtains appropriate transport equipment (e.g., wheelchair, stretcher, etc.) for the task.
4. Monitors patient during transport and calls appropriate teammates if patient appears to be in distress.
5. Evaluates transport equipment for inventory and equipment maintenance. Notifies the Emergency Department Supervisor if repairs are required.
6. Cleans/sanitizes transport equipment after use. Returns all transport equipment to the proper storage area when not in use.
7. Completes additional and routine tasks as assigned, e.g., removing linen and replacing oxygen tanks.
8. Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy and tact in all patient, teammate, and provider interactions.
9. Participates in continuing education and in-services as required.
10. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.
11. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
