T and T Consulting Services Inc is Hiring a Network/Linux System Administrator Near Bethesda, MD

OVERVIEW:

The National Institute of Health (NIH) MRI Research Facility (NMRF) is a shared, intramural resource for human imaging studies and is supported by all Institutes at NIH. Administratively, NMRF resides within NINDS. NMRF administers and maintains a computer network system used by many human MRI scanners and multiple laboratories within the NMR Center. The NMRF systems infrastructure provides data storage space, data backup facilities, and virtual environments to run specialized software.

T and T Consulting Services is seeking a Network and System Administrator to assist NMRF development teams in the operations and maintenance of NMRF systems. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the NMRF computer network and associated IT systems infrastructure. The primary goal is to support research projects by offering state-of-the-art systems and network capabilities to the researchers using the NMRF computer facilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all network administration tasks daily. The network administration tasks include maintenance of network switches and routers, security monitoring, DHCP and firewall maintenance.
  • Perform NMRF systems administration tasks daily as follows:
  • Install, manage and maintain Linux workstations, VMware servers, and personal computers, and administer user accounts.
  • Install, manage and maintain backup of Linux workstations and servers e.g. tape backup using EMC Networker and Quantum tape library.
  • Design, install, support and maintain network servers, NAS and local storage environments.
  • Manage and maintain Applications, Databases, Home directory and Web servers on the cross-platform Linux environment and ensure that they are functioning at peak performance.
  • Perform NMRF website administration tasks including software upgrades, backup, troubleshooting and enhancement as necessary.
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for other NIH wide IT groups regarding the NMRF network and systems and generate required documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the NMRF staff and user community to ensure that research and administrative work are carried out without interruption.
  • Assess the equipment and infrastructure needs of the network in NMRF, including procurement of equipment associated with the NMRF, as well as testing and ensuring proper operation of new equipment. 
  • Provide input in developing specifications and coordinating procurement of the facilities required to support the overall goals of the NMRF network and computing needs.
  • Recommend the acquisition of major equipment and expansion of the network to support growing user needs.
  • Regularly communicate with NMRF Technical Director on project status, early identification of risks, and recommended improvements to the overall IT support and network infrastructure.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or another related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in computer network administration.
  • Current Cisco CCNA/CCNP professional certification.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining high-end CISCO network switches (29xx and 38xx Series) and Cisco firewalls (ASA 55xx Series).
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining Linux based workstations including virtual environments (e.g. RHEL, CentOS, VMware vSphere 5.x).
  • Experience in maintaining and enhancing websites using Drupal.
  • Experience with EMC networker and Quantum tape library back system or other backup technology.
  • Experience in all aspects of computer techniques, including extensive knowledge in local and wide area networks, network systems analysis and design techniques, network protocols and security issues.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in administering and maintaining various types of servers (application, backup, web), workstations and personal computers.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • NIH experience is highly desired.

· This work may also be performed remotely at the discretion of the IC, NINDS.
