Maintenance Technician
Poplar Springs Hospital i s a 183 bed acute care and residential facility. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. Poplar Springs Hospital is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. Poplar Springs Hospital is seeking an energetic, driven, professional to join our Maintenance team. This individual will be able to identify customer groups both in and outside of the hospital (contractors, vendors, patients, staff, etc.) and to perform job tasks and responsibilities in such a way to exceed customer expectations. Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance repairs and services (ie: mechanical and preventative maintenance tasks, as well as inspections, servicing, repair and overhaul of equipment, vehicles and facilities of the hospital). Replace washers, faucets and seals on malfunctioning plumbing equipment; repair leaky faucets and clean clogged drains; install and repair sprinklers. Paint interior and exterior walls and cabinets; hang wallpaper and pictures; assemble furniture. Install light bulbs, doors, cabinets, paneling, formica, carpet, and bulletin boards Other duties as assigned .

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• CPR / First Aid - not required
• Valid driver's license

Education/Experience:

• High school and trade or technical school education or equivalent combination of experience and education required.
• Previous experience in general maintenance work required.

General Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities. (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
• Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
• Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
• Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
