US District of Columbia Courts is Hiring a Telecommunications Specialist Near Washington, DC

Duties

The Telecommunications Specialist provides coverage outside of business hours, on-call support for critical systems on a rotating basis and, where necessary, work the occasional weekend/evening to perform maintenance, upgrades, and repairs or troubleshooting.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Executes projects which are of critical importance to the telecommunications mission
  • Analyzes and tests systems and equipment which have complex characteristics and features
  • Monitors the VoIP telephones systems
  • Administers Avaya Voice Communication Systems, Avaya Call Management System, and troubleshoots data voice lines and performance issues
  • Manages the DC Courts Alert system which automatically sends notifications by e-mail, phone, or text message to all registered users
  • Functions as technical representative and participates in acquisition of telecommunications systems and services
  • Serves as liaison with vendors and contractors doing business with the Courts
  • Writes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all software applications that are used by the Telecommunications Team
  • Participates in the design and architecture of the next generation telecommunication systems

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Telecommunications Technology plus five (5) years of experience in telecommunications and network technologies. Current industry recognized technology certifications and/or Avaya certifications are a plus.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of call center technology, voice systems and voice networks with emphasis in VoIP systems with both h.323 and SIP;
  • Knowledge of Avaya Communication Manager (Avaya Aura Platforms) and Adjunct Administration, Maintenance, and Installation;
  • Knowledge of VoIP, inbound and outbound voice networks, experience with network protocols and circuit provisioning and standards, understanding of LAN protocols;
  • Ability to plan, investigate, design, and implement voice networks.

Most military, federal and District of Columbia government service counts toward the time required to go into the next higher annual leave category. Employees can carry over no more than 240 hours of annual leave into the next leave year.
    Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four(4)hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.

    In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as a commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $150 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year.
