Description Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool.
The
Senior Swim Lesson Instructor provides leadership and influence within the program area they are working, while creating a safe, friendly and nurturing atmosphere for all participants.
Responsibilities: - Build relationships with youth and parents by encouraging participants with honest, direct, and appropriate feedback using the Y voice attributes.
- Create a safe environment for participants through appropriate class control, by role modeling safe behaviors, maintaining a clutter-free deck, and being on time and ready to respond quickly and appropriately.
- Implement the established curriculum that helps youth achieve the five Cause Measurement goals.
- Adapt lessons as necessary to help kids succeed. Utilize Y resources and best practices from other instructors to develop this skill.
- Engage members and program participants in effective, age-appropriate communication using the Y voice attributes regarding swimmer progression, retention, and placement using the Y voice attributes and an appropriate level of discretion.
- Adhere to Aquatics Leading Practice Manual.
- Function as a point person for swim instructors by providing direction, guidance and support during swim lessons, in handling and resolving concerns, and keeping Coordinator informed.
Qualifications: - Age - Must be 18 years of age or older (certification or licensure requirements)
- Must be able to differentiate between colors (red, yellow, blue and green).
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
Schedule: This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are mornings 9:00am-noon and evenings 4:00pm-7:00pm.
