AOK Scholars Foundation is Hiring an AOK Program Specialist Near Orlando, FL

Position: AOK Program Specialist

  • Growing organization seeks to add Program Specialist to support former foster youth and students experiencing homelessness while pursuing their post-secondary education.
  • Program Specialists work directly with Scholars in our program to enhance professional, personal, and academic development by providing funding support and teachable moments through coaching.

About the Program: The Lawrence E. White Family Foundation (LWFF) was founded in 2002. In 2013, LWFF initiated the AOK Scholars Foundation and the AOK Scholars Program, which is designed to assist disadvantaged college and post high school education bound young adults who, if helped, were most likely to succeed. Scholars come from diverse backgrounds, and most are eligible for either the DCF (Foster Care) Waiver or the Homeless Wavier. Using a network of supporting staff this non-profit foundation provides financial assistance to and for these young adults when they encounter barriers to completing their education.

Position Description: The AOK Scholars Program Specialist position works directly with scholars to administer the functions of the program. All of these activities are designed to promote the personal development, achievement of academic progress and goals, and overall success of every scholar in the program. Each Specialist has an assigned caseload of scholars and reports directly to the Program and Financial Supervisor. Because AOK works with students throughout the state of Florida, Specialists may have scholars who are in multiple locations and attending a variety of institutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Coach and support scholars in areas of financial literacy, budgeting and financial management, professional development, and life skills
  • Maintain productive working relationships with scholars, staff, and leadership
  • Process scholar funding requests
  • Coordinate regular contact with each assigned scholar and maintain accurate and up-to-date contact activity reports
  • Review transcripts and other documents to ensure scholars’ continued eligibility
  • Coordinate with academic advisors and campus contacts as relevant
  • Refer scholars to community agencies, partners, and resources as appropriate
  • Participate in the scholar application, interviewing, and onboarding processes
  • Assist in the planning and organization of program socials and events

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Internet and MS Office programs (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust workload as necessary
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude when addressing challenges or resolving problems
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff, subordinates and constituents
  • Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence & sensitivity to population served
  • Ability to work independently
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working with youth in foster care or other at-risk college age populations
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office programs with particular emphasis in Excel
  • Work experience at the college or university level
  • 4-7 years relevant work experience

Special Conditions:

  • On-call assignments – Available for emergencies and incidences during non-work hours
  • Available for program events on some evenings and weekends
  • Car for use at work

Work Hours:

Monday – Friday

9AM – 6PM

Salary Range:

$37-$40k
