We are seeking a Transportation Design Engineer with 5-10 years in transportation or roadway design to join our team. In this role, you will assist, or lead preparation of plan sets for civil engineering projects with a focus on active mode designs (sidewalks, bike lanes, cycle tracks, shared use paths). Our active modes group is growing and building upon recent successes. We need additional capacity for those who can independently design components of projects that are managed by existing senior staff, while also training, mentoring and delegating to junior, more inexperienced staff. 

While our home office is located in Kirkland, WA, we want to hear from motivated, solution-oriented engineers wherever they are. Successful candidates will work primarily in the Washington and/or Utah markets.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

• Developing designs, including plans, specifications, and estimates, as well as planning-level exhibits and figures for civil transportation facilities, such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roadway design, channelization, and signing. 

• Independently make design changes and update all associated callouts, detail references, specifications, etc., understanding the impacts of a change in design on other aspects of the project. 

• Help to manage schedule and workload by providing realistic estimates of time to complete, resources needed, and updates as things change. 

• Act as supervisor/mentor for junior staff, providing timesheet supervision and guide career growth. 

• Perform quality control of work completed by junior staff. 

• Be a self-starter, manage your own workload, and take initiative for the development of your own skill set and professional growth.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering). 

• Washington or Utah experience a plus but not required. 

• Must have EIT certification, PE in either state preferred (WA or Utah). 

• Experience in the transportation industry developing designs, including plans, specifications, and estimates, as well as planning-level exhibits and figures for civil transportation facilities, such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roadway design, channelization, and signing. 

• Familiarity with Washington or Utah State standards is preferred.

• Proficient with AutoCad Civil 3D and/or Microstation OpenRoads. Familiar with national standards including MUTCD, ADA/PROWAG, etc.
