Mechanical Engineer

SUMMARY

Projects will be delegated by the Engineering Manager and the timeline will be managed by the Project Manager. All projects will have specific deadlines and milestones. It is the Mechanical Engineer's responsibility to communicate with all necessary personnel to gather all information for the product design. This includes, researching requirements for new parts or material, developing new processes, understanding internal or industry quality and safety standards.

The Mechanical Engineer supports production by working with supervisors and operators to troubleshoot issues related to design, process, and equipment. In order to help troubleshoot these problems, every engineer will need to know the limits and capabilities of all equipment and the basics of how to operate them. All changes will need to be documented and properly submitted to the engineering assistant responsible for documentation control.

A Mechanical Engineer at TFI is responsible for the design of all aftermarket and OEM components, all internal equipment design, and determining production processes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works on multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Works in a cooperative manner with the engineering, production, sales staff, management staff, customers and vendors.
  • Uses Autodesk Inventor and/or Solidworks to design products, projects, and to create and edit drawings.
  • Creates and routes engineering change orders through the department to support production needs.
  • Assists the process engineer to troubleshoot, problem solve and implement continuous improvement for product and processes.
  • Innovatively creates new products and solutions to problems.
  • Clearly communicates in a professional and effective manner verbally and non-verbally and works as a team member at all times.
  • Manages projects using engineering principles and techniques.
  • Discusses and solves complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Plans and designs new production processes with the ability to work "hands on".
  • Utilizes research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design.
  • Develops jigs, fixtures, or tooling and 3D models.
  • Generates and maintains production documentation (Prints, BOMs, Work Instructions, SSOPs), installation instructions and test reports.
  • Operates and/or programs equipment.
  • Plans and conducts tests to verify products and process designs and suggests improvements as needed.
  • Participates in sourcing of new and improved components for our products.
  • Participates in innovative new processes and product development.


Required knowledge/Skills 

English Language Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Stress Management The ability to effectively manage stress and prioritize tasks is very important at TFI.

Critical Thinking The objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.

Active Listening Listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding.

Active Learning Activities, such as reading, writing, discussion, or problem solving that promote analysis, the combining of ideas, and evaluation of learned content.

Qualifications/Prerequisites

  • Required minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least two years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Research and Design Engineer.
