Tramec Plastics and Composites in Wellington, KS is currently seeking a Quality Engineer.

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer utilizes AIAG core tools to ensure product conforms to customer requirements. Areas of responsibility include implementation of quality plans for customer projects (e.g. PPAP), development and implementation of process controls, process validation, measurement system analysis (MSA activity), facilitation of corrective and preventive activity, auditing, and some supplier quality management.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish, maintain and enforce written quality procedures and quality work instructions, which are required by the Quality System.
  • Ensure product meets design specifications and/or customer expectations through inspection and testing of raw materials, purchased components and finished goods, and production processes.
  • Responsible for the quality of vendor supplied product through design review, supplier on-site and self-survey, nonconforming material report, corrective action follow-up and incoming inspection.
  • Responsible for production process and tooling/machine capability studies.
  • Responsible for gauge calibration, gauge design, gauge purchase recommendation, gauge maintenance, monitoring, documentation, and storage.
  • Capable of measuring parts and the development of the customer required quality documents (examples: PPAP, control plan, FAIR, flow diagram, etc.)
  • Responsible for recording and implementation of customer complaints and internal corrective actions in a timely manner. Product analysis and corrective action of customer complaints, material returns and warranty returns.
  • Responsible for record retention of quality records.
  • Responsible for obtaining written customer authorization whenever product or process is different from what is currently approved.
  • Responsible for supplier PPAP approvals.
  • Responsible for the review, control, and disposition of non-conforming product.
  • Participates with ECN projects on assigned programs.
  • Responsible for working in accordance with our documented Quality System, and for ensuring that products and services meet the customer’s specified requirements.
  • Conducts Audits including Internal, Process, Product, Supplier, and LPA
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area using the 5S process and follows all safety policies.
  • May be required by Management to perform other reasonable work-related tasks.
  • May be required to work different shifts, hours, overtime, and weekends if needed.
  • Travel to other Tramec locations, customers or suppliers may be required.
Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, Mechanical, Design or Electrical preferred, advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent in the area of Quality Control/Assurance.
  • CQE certification is preferred.
  • 6-Sigma certification and/or lean manufacturing knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience working directly with customers and suppliers is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to complete an auditor-training program for ISO-9001 within 6 months of starting.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to work independently are required.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written communications, additional language fluency is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is required.
  • Ability to work independent of supervision and make a wide variety of complex decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required, both written and verbal.

Computer Skills

  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the plastic injection molding is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with clients, co-workers, vendors, and business partners.
  • Candidate must be a fast learner with a high attention to detail.

  • Lifting-up to 50lbs.
