General Statement of Duties
Camp Counselors are expected to work directly with the campers and are responsible for ensuring an exciting, enjoyable and safe summer for all participants. Camp Counselor responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Participates in pre-season staff training.
Arrives to work on time and wears Kamp Kairphree staff apparel.
Communicates effectively and appropriately with campers.
Leads campers in games, activities, crafts and trips.
Sets a good example and is a positive role model.
Notifies the Directors immediately of any accidents or incidents, and provides requested information for documentation.
Executes all emergency procedures, with the safety of campers as the first concern.
Rides the bus to and from the beach and other off-site locations with the campers.
Bus counselors ensure safety of campers on the morning and afternoon bus routes as well as ensure all campers are properly checked in and out by a parent/guardian.
Prioritizes camper safety by performing unit checks frequently throughout the day.
Responsible for proper care and storage of all camp equipment and facilities.
Attends weekly staff meetings to review plans, schedules, and address any program highlights or areas of concern.
Hands in all forms, including unit checks and unit attendance daily.
Season: Weekdays starting at the end of June through mid-August (7-weeks)
Hours: 8:45 a.m. - 4 p.m., Approximately 35 hours/week
Qualifications
Must be 16 years of age or older or completed at least sophomore year of high school. Previous experience working with children preferred. Must have maturity of judgement in everyday situations, patience and understanding with youth, and enthusiasm for the job. Must have the ability to supervise children in all situations including the waterfront. Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
