This position will be based in our Oakland, CA office. 

Role Overview

Come help us shape the urban fabric in cities around the Bay Area and beyond!

We are seeking a Senior Urban Design Planner who will work with leading national developers and homebuilders to create new for-sale residential communities throughout the Bay Area. In this role, you will develop innovative solutions to today’s housing needs working directly with the other Oakland design leaders and our clients. We are seeking someone with excellent design skills, who can work both collaboratively and independently.

The ideal candidate will be able to articulate our vision and solutions — visually, verbally, and written, to the client, the city, and the team. If you are ambitious, have a growth mindset, and looking to join a company that values creativity, then we would value your application.

Key Job Functions

  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, city agencies and project consultants effectively.
  • Understand environmental law and entitlement process.
  • Interpret and apply applicable state, county, and local codes, ordinances, standards and regulations, design guidelines, and other applicable planning requirements to the project.
  • Produce the following graphics with minimal direction:
    • Site plans, Feasibility studies, master plans, site sections, and other associated planning exhibits such as land use, circulation diagrams, etc.
    • Image Boards
    • Presentations, booklets, specific plan documents, design guidelines, master plans, and other entitlement documents.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Present projects or planning concepts orally at public hearings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Proficiency with the following software:
    • AutoCAD
    • Sketchup
    • Microsoft Office
    • Adobe Suite: InDesign and Photoshop

Required Education and Experience

  • 5-8 Years of Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in urban & regional planning, architecture, or related field
  • Portfolio work in residential for-sale typology
  • Experience with urban infill & small-scale master plans

The wage range that the Company expects to pay is $95,000 - $110,000 annually.
