In October 2021, we launched our new ‘Food Club & Opportunity Hub’ to expand efficient, impactful healthy food assistance with the on-site integration of other pathway programs. More recently, we announced a partnership with Dwelling Place to help address the affordable housing crisis here in Holland. In July 2023, we publicly launched our expansion of Lakeshore Food Rescue (www.lakeshorefoodrescue.org).

Compensation & Benefits: $45,000 - $50,000, eligible for full-time benefits
SummaryThe Communications Manager is a project manager that plays a central role in executing our annual communications calendar and managing various projects across departments. This position involves overseeing the organization's mass email platform, developing and implementing email marketing strategies, and ensuring effective communication with diverse audiences. The Communications Manager is responsible for creating compelling content for a variety of communication materials, including newsletters, annual appeals, and educational blog posts.
This position works closely with internal teams and external vendors to execute branding projects and produce engaging content that aligns with our organization's mission and messaging. Through effective project management and collaboration with sub-teams, the Communications Manager helps drive impactful storytelling and communication initiatives that support our programs.
Responsibilities & Essential Duties:Project Management
  • Execute annual communications calendar through project-based and by-request initiatives for Programming, People & Culture, Development, Events, and Resale Store
  • Execute branding projects for the organization as needed as programs grow and adjust their efforts
  • Oversee and manage the organization's mass email platform, ensuring effective communication with various organizational audiences
  • Develop and execute email marketing strategies, including content creation, audience segmentation, list maintenance and integrity, and performance analysis
  • Lead effective cross-team collaborations: Conduct monthly meetings across teams (Programming, People & Culture, Development, Volunteer, Resale) to align on key needs and projects on an ongoing basis
  • Order marketing materials and help maintain inventory of marketing materials
Content Creation and Design
  • Develop storytelling and content writing for various communication materials including program announcements and flyers, annual appeals, newsletters, e-news, annual impact reports, and educational blog posts
  • Utilize design skills to develop flyers and invitations via Canva as needed
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on effectiveness of single or multi-channel communication efforts
  • Work with internal teams to build robust processes for capturing and pursuing guest stories and program outcomes.
  • Work with outside graphic designers and other vendors on projects as needed
  • Create and implement content for mass email campaigns, ensuring alignment with the organization's branding and messaging
  • Support the achievement of overall Communications Team priorities through executing other tasks and duties as assigned by the Communications Director
Supervision Received
  • General Direction: Receives broad guidance and direction and has some autonomy in decision-making and flexibility in determining how to achieve goals. Supervisor provides support and resources as needed but may not be directly involved in day-to-day decision-making or task assignments
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None: Does not have formal people leading (supervisory) responsibilities
Education & Experience
  • 4 years of relevant experience required
  • No supervisory experience required
  • Bachelor's Degree required.; or in place of a degree, equivalent years of experience
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred

  • Ability to create engaging and compelling content
  • Understanding of brand identity and ability to maintain brand consistency
  • Familiarity with digital marketing principles, best practices, and platforms
  • Strong creativity and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in analyzing metrics and data
