About the Role:
The Physical Therapy Assistant will help Physical Therapists provide physical therapy treatments and procedures. The Physical Therapist Assistant may, in accordance with state laws, assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist.
Responsibilities:
· Working under the supervision of the Physical Therapist by flowing the PT’s therapy plan
· Providing treatment to increase joint function, muscle strength, mobility, and endurance
· Addressing gross motor skills related to participation in educational program
· Improving the student’s posture, gait, and body awareness
· Promoting functional mobility
· Monitoring the function, fit, and proper use of mobility aids and devices
· Providing occupational therapy or physical therapy to students, as required
· Providing services at multiple schools in CCPS/Charles County
· Based upon individual evaluations and educational needs, services may be provided one on one or in small groups
· Performing PT assessments and evaluations using appropriate tests, observations, and other information provided by the Individual Education Program (IEP) team
· Interpreting evaluation findings and the impact of the student’s disability in the educational environment
· Participating e in IEP meetings to develop or revise a student’s (IEP) program
· Developing educationally appropriate goals and objectives based on the present level of functional and academic performance
· Developing adaptations and/or implement use of equipment to encourage student participation in school-related activities
· Providing training and support to staff and parents/guardians as appropriate
· Consulting with IEP team and monitor the effectiveness of strategies/training procedures related to PT
· Providing recommendations for adapted equipment appropriate to a child’s needs
· Completing the required documentation (data collection, progress reports, medical assistance billing, etc.) in a timely manner
· Conducting reevaluations to determine continued eligibility for students on caseload
· Participating in PT team meetings and other special education meetings as appropriate
· Being responsible for the above duties, responsibilities, and others related to any resultant contract as determined by the Director of Special Education or her designee
Candidate Requirements:
· Associate’s degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant program
· Two (2) years’ work experience
· Successfully completed an accredited program and must maintain specific licensure requirements including completing continuing education credits per licensure renewal cycle to practice in the State of Maryland
