Position Summary:

The The Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) Communications Directorate requires a contractor Strategic Communications Specialist to provide strategic, tactical and operational communications support; manage Navy Medicine’s Strategic Communications Plan and its implementation; and compile and analyze communication analytics.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Tasks:

Required General Tasks:

  • Maintain an active presence while representing the agency on social media platforms: Help execute an approved social media strategy; prepare monthly social media analytics reports; and assist in the development, planning and marketing of communication products (including graphics, videos and other related social media material).

  • Develop informational strategies

  • Collaborate with key Command/Enterprise stakeholders to build and design a strategic focus

  • Collect, organize and maintain command messaging for ease of use (e.g., the BUMED Playbook) and work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to update messages, as required

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the military communications realm. Prior DoD military, civilian or contractor work experience is preferable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; Adobe Creative Suite; and social media platforms Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr and LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of drafting, editing and publishing videos.
  • Ability to create graphics and content that support leadership priority, key observances, and holidays.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of photography and videography.
  • Be knowledgeable about emerging communication technology trends.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Required Experience:

  • Communications professional with minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a strategic communications role. Superior communication skills, both oral and written (required). The individual must be able to write/edit, communicate effectively and manage competing priorities.

Education and Certifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferable) in a communications-related field.

  • 100% office work
