Program Director - Physical Therapist Assistant - South Campus

Job/Assignment Purpose :
Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair (DC), the Program Director (PD) will maintain the role of a full-time faculty member while managing an accredited instructional program within the College.
Essential duties and responsibilities (in concert with the department chair and Dean) include the following:
  • The program director is responsible for:
    • The management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation, and commitment to strategies for professional development.
    • Being an effective teacher, to maintain current knowledge in their field, and to have pedagogic skills that are appropriate for our students.
    • Contributing to the community of scholars, and to represent the College in the community.
    • Maintaining current knowledge of the standards of CAPTE as well as complete all accreditation reporting.
    • Conducting meetings with faculty within the program and conveys information between the department, division, and/or college as appropriate.
    • Leading and maintaining curriculum within the program.
    • Assessing student learning outcomes, program assessment, and any other related reports needed for accreditation.
    • Providing feedback to faculty for performance reviews and assist with obtaining part-time faculty as appropriate.
    • Demonstrating the values of San Jacinto College as expected of all employees.
Teaching
  • Maintain an appropriate teaching load.
  • Keeps up with developments in the field of study.
  • Demonstrates high standards-academic and professional.
  • Evaluates student work constructively and provides timely feedback.
  • Provides access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials.
  • Develops and uses a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guideline.
Professional Development
  • Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.
  • Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self-reflection.
  • Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s).
  • Attends meetings held by TPTA, APTA, or other entities that will provide valuable information regarding education and the PT profession.
Service
  • Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils.
  • Participates in college-related activities such as registration, community education, recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection.
  • Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention.
  • Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
  • Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participates in setting departmental goals, in developing college budgets that support the goals, and in planning for achieving those goals.
  • Promotes and maintains departmental affiliation agreements and other partnerships with other institutions.

Additional Duties:

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Required Education:
  • A minimum of Master's Degree (MS) awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). The master's degree is not limited to a master's degree in physical therapy.
Required Experience:
  • A minimum of five years (or equivalent), full-time, post licensure experience that includes a minimum of three years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience within any US jurisdiction.
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must be a Physical Therapist who is licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
Preferred:
  • Experience working with the neurological and/or pediatric population.
Note: Applicants must submit PT or PTA licensure verification.

Salary Grade: Masters

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
