The west Oakland Health Council is seeking two full time empathetic, culturally competent pharmacy technicians for its East and West Oakland pharmacies. We offer a secure, collaborative clinic environment where patient care and outcomes are the #1 priority. These positions are full time 40 hrs. / week, benefitted, Monday through Friday, with no nights or weekends. We offer a competitive, negotiable package, based on experience.

DEFINITION:

Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will perform technical functions and related pharmacy activities related to compounding, procuring, storing, and distributing pharmaceutical products. 

**All employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment, subject to limited exemptions. New Employees are required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before the first day of employment. Exemptions to this requirement will be considered for those requesting an exemption on medical, disability, or religious grounds.

HOURS: 8 am - 5 pm 

SALARY: negotiable

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the duties will include but are not limited to:
    • Data entry (maintaining patient, drug, insurance profiles)
    • Dispensing and filling of medication (counting/pouring/mixing pharmaceuticals)
    • Answer phones in a timely/courteous manner
    • Maintain medication inventory 
    • Maintain pharmacy records (prescriptions, requisitions, purchase orders, various reports).
    • Maintain pharmacy equipment such as Baker Cells, Kirby Lester pill counter, and refrigerator/ freezer thermometer
  • Fills orders and dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist (pulls pre-packaged medication or obtains stock containers); pre-packages oral and external medications using various packaging and labeling equipment:
    • Removing the drug or drugs from stock
    • Counting, pouring, or mixing pharmaceuticals 
    • Placing the product into a container
    • Affixing the labels to the container 
    • Packages and re-packaging 
  • Receives physician orders and reviews for completeness; determines availability of drugs (ordered by generic or trade names) on Medi-Cal formulary; obtains patient information on prescriptions and maintains the Pharmacy Patient Medication profiles; types prescription labels.
  • Orders medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist; receives and verifies delivered orders; re-stocks medication shelved ands supply bins; rotates and removes outdated drugs; maintains pharmacy equipment and work counters; maintains stock records. 
  • Picks up and replaces floor stock containers of solution, ointment and some medication; delivers medications directly to the nursing units.
  • Inputs dispensing and billing information into computer terminal; updates files on new drugs, new physicians, etc.; maintains other appropriate records; performs tasks necessary to maintain the pharmacy area and equipment order.
  • Performs other duties which are related to the above and which fall within the scope of Pharmacy Technician.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attends work regularly and punctually; is readily accessible during work hours to peers; limits absences from own duty stations and limits visits and activities which distract others from their performance of duties.
  • Works cooperatively with immediate supervisor, with department members, and with other Council staff persons, as required
  • Treats all patients / clients / visitors with respect and courtesy.
  • Remains competent in skills required for position.
    • During the initial thirty (30) days of employment, becomes and remains knowledgeable about and in compliance with the Council's and Department policies and procedures in the following areas:
    • Confidentiality of patient / client / fellow employee and supplier records
    • Patient's rights and responsibilities.
    • Professional and business ethics.
    • Continuous quality and improvement.
    • Safety and security of person and property.
    • Infection control.
    • Hazardous materials and waste.
    • Life safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Maintains a working knowledge about and in continued compliance with all of those areas listed under item (5) throughout your employment with the Council.
  • Provides Services appropriate to the age of the patients/ clients/ visitors served
  • Is able to work and/or interact satisfactorily with a workforce and public, which is ethnically and culturally diverse.
  • Is responsible for performing other assigned duties which are related to the above within the scope of this job description

  • Must be a High School graduate or possess a GED certificate.
  • Must be licensed by California State Board of Pharmacy. 
  • Minimum of two years experience working as a Pharmacy Technician preferred. 
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure and be receptive to change.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people with widely different functions, trainings, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Reliable/ dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to work well with a team and self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA requirements.
  • Detail oriented with time management skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and current Brand/ Generic drugs.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
  • Work effectively under pressure and receptive to change.
