Bilingual Academic Support Position
The Stony Brook School, a distinguished independent, faith-based boarding school, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated part time, Bilingual Academic Support and World Language Faculty Member to join the Global Extension of our school.In this role, the candidate will provide individual and small group academic coaching and tutoring, with a primary focus on assisting native Spanish speakers. Additionally, there may be teaching responsibilities in ESL and/or Spanish classes. This position is integral to ensuring the academic success of our students with the Gravitas program.

Job Status: Part Time, 28 hours/week
Primary Office Location: Remote
Start Date: August 2024
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide cross-disciplinary bilingual academic support to Gravitas students, ensuring their success in the program
• Teach up to two sections of classes, which may include ESL and/or Spanish.
• Conduct standing academic coaching office hours and manage the writing center.
• Schedule and conduct one-on-one appointments with students as required.
• Oversee the Spanish language lab for students learning Spanish, as well as the English language lab for ELL students.
• Assist the Assistant Director with orientation, student onboarding, and study skills support.
• Collaborate with faculty to support students enrolled in academic and language support programs.

Qualifications:

• • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in education field preferred
  • Three years of tutoring and/or teaching experience
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficiency in subject matter tutoring, learning strategies, and IEP implementation.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency

Salary Range: $25-$38 per hour; commensurate to experience.
