Job Details Job Location 91 - New York, NY Position Type Part Time Education Level Not Specified Salary Range $31,822.00 - $72,640.00 Salary/year The Spence School Middle and/or Upper School Learning Specialist Part-Time position (50%) to begin September 2024 Overview: The Spence School seeks a part-time Learning Specialist to join a strong team of K-12 learning resource faculty to support our Middle and Upper school students in grades 5-12. The position offers an opportunity to teach students with diagnosed and undiagnosed learning challenges in small groups, one-to-one and in collaboration with faculty members. The department's collaboration with families, faculty and additional support providers is one of the many strengths of the team and positions learning specialists to be an integral part of the Spence community and lives of students. Responsibilities
Provide direct support to middle and/or upper school students through one-to-one, small group, and co-teaching instruction
Partner with psychoeducational evaluators, families, and tutors
Partner with classroom teachers and administration on student learning in all academic areas
Proactively contribute to the capacity of the Resource Department
Support teachers, administrators, and parents' understandings of academically vulnerable students
Collaborate with other student support roles, including but not limited to the Middle and Upper School Counselors, Nurse, and Administration
Foster the School's understanding of an inclusive approach to teaching
Qualifications:
Has sustained teaching experience with middle and upper school students with diagnosed learning disabilities in the areas of literacy, math, and executive functioning
Has advanced degree or equivalent experience working with students with diagnosed learning disabilities as well as certifications in intervention programs that support students with learning challenges
Has sustained experience in reading, interpreting and summarizing educational evaluations
Has experience working in close collaboration with classroom teachers, families, outside providers, and school administrators
Demonstrates skill in working with children and adolescents and an appreciation for the craft of teaching
Finds joy in working with students and in school life
Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
Approaches work with energy, kindness, maturity, curiosity, and flexibility
Has a sense of humor
Considers collaboration an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team
Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school community
