Job Objective:
Assist Store Manager with the store staff; production and sales; store maintenance; customer development; banking and record-keeping procedures. Support manager in all day-to-day operations of assigned thrift store.
Essential Functions:

Support staff training and supervision as assigned.
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing staff for store, as assigned.
  • Participate in scheduling of staff, monitor accuracy and submit payroll for processing, as assigned.
  • Ensure that all TSA policies and practices concerning employee relations are complied with.
  • Promptly forward all employment related paperwork to the HR Department at the ARC.
  • Provide training, supervision and support to beneficiaries that are assigned to the store as part of their work therapy.
Support implementation of strategies to meet production and sales goals.
  • Supervise the product acquisition (donation) processes, production (sorting, hanging, pricing, and presentation) processes and sales processes.
  • Supervise with proficiency all parts of the acquisition, production, and sales processes.
  • Supervise the product rotation process and is diligent in turning product over.
  • Communicate with central warehouse to place orders for next days processing needs.
Assist manager with the store maintenance and appearance of the store with regard to safety, security, cleanliness, appearance and utility.
Ensure that the store is in compliance with all OSHA and Salvation Army safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Check to make sure displays and floor layout plans are being followed and updated.
  • Identify and communicate with manager ways to improve appearance and appeal of store to customers.
  • Implement Product Control Procedures preventing shrinkage through theft or spoilage.
  • Promptly report all maintenance or repair needs and issues to the Store Manager and when unavailable, the appropriate personnel at the ARC.
Implement customer development and retention plans.
  • Create an enjoyable shopping experience.
  • Interact positively with customers, setting the example for all staff.
Assist the manager in recordkeeping and reporting procedures for the store.
  • Apply TSA approved cash handling procedures for opening and closing of registers.
  • Assist in the management of the bank runs and deposit procedures for the store.
  • Report Store production and sales, as assigned.
  • Use inventory tracking as assigned.
Communicate with the Store Manager regarding all facets of the stores operations, keeping them updated and sharing all incidents, concerns and ideas; and with ARC department heads, as outlined in training, as assigned.
In conjunction with the Store Manager, proactively work to improve the image of The Salvation Army among staff and in the community.
  • Create a positive understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Redirect complaints and criticism by providing education and understanding of the Program and pricing.
Protect the resources under their supervision.
  • Implement Product Control Procedures preventing shrinkage through theft or spoilage.
  • Control property, utility and product supply waste.
All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education Experience: High School Degree or Equivalent. Two years of retail experience. Thrift experience is a plus. Associates Degree a plus; OR, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications: Valid Driver's License. Able to drive on behalf of The Salvation Army per Salvation Army Policy.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with customers, management, and co-workers.
  • Basic computer skills, including but limited to the use of the Point of Sales System; the payroll program, and all other programs or systems that are adopted by the TSA ARC.
  • Ability to give change accurately.
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Support the training and supervision of store staff.
  • Document and provide information requested about direct reports to Store Manager for a personnel review and corrective action.
  • Review and approve time and attendance for store personnel using the current payroll system. Check time logs regularly. Follow all current regulations and trainings.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment for this position is a store environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. The environment may be dusty and may experience temperature fluctuations based on weather. May stand for extended periods.
Travel:
May be required to travel to various locations for work or training.
