LOCATION/DEPT: Oakbrook Terrace Corps
REPORTS TO: Day Camp Director
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: TFT/TPT
OUTCOMES Work under the direction of the Day Camp Director to ensure that the Day Camp is in keeping with the overall plans, goals, and directions of the Corps.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for daily classes including preparation, teaching, and clean-up.
  • Prepare lesson plans to be approved by the Day Camp Director.
  • Obtain needed supplies within the Day Camp approved budget.
  • Understand that the overall theme of the Day Camp will have a Christian emphasis.
  • Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.
  • Attend the orientation prior to the start of Day Camp, debriefing and the final musical program.
  • Take part as a leader on weekly field trips.
  • Be on substitute rotation for Before & After Care as needed.
  • Areas of leadership can include:
    • Bible leadership
    • Craft leadership
    • Musical leadership
    • Literacy leadership
    • Recreation leadership
    • Special Theme leadership
    • Bridge (13 years olds) leadership
    • Before & After leadership
  • Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSUnder the direct supervision of the Day Camp Director. In the absence of the Day Camp Director to be under the supervision of the Assistant Day Camp Director or Youth Development Director.
This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
Education/ Experience
  • Must have completed at least 1 year of college or at least 1 year of experience in day camping.
  • Over 18 years old preferred.

  • Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Day Camp Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.
  • The work environment for this position includes indoor and outdoor environments with a low to high noise level.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
