Position Summary: Join MaineAEYC's team and work to support the education of young children and bring power to the profession for early childhood educators. We advance policy and systems change and unite the voices of early childhood education in Maine.

In this position, you will help manage the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Program in Maine. The T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Program increases the availability of accessible, affordable college education and provides workforce support for early educators, whether they work in private for-profit or nonprofit programs, Head Start, prekindergarten classrooms or family child care homes.

This position provides support and counseling to scholarship recipients and markets T.E.A.C.H. scholarships to potential early childhood professionals around Maine.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides college and scholarship counseling to the identified T.E.A.C.H. recipients and potential recipients. Makes and records monthly contacts with all T.E.A.C.H. recipients to ensure success with their college coursework.

Promptly and accurately process applications, bills, grade reports, income verifications, etc. for the T.E.A.C.H. Program. Respond to requests for information promptly.

Uses the T.E.A.C.H. FileMaker Pro database for processing recipients’ accounts and maintaining accurate data.

Under the supervision of the T.E.A.C.H. Program Director, provide support to ensure that all requirements of the T.E.A.C.H. license will be met for recipients, including recruiting, case management and counseling, recordkeeping, data collection and database requirements, conference attendance requirements, project evaluation, and reporting.

Recruit programs and early educators to participate in the T.E.A.C.H. program. Newsletters; emails; mailings; presentations at trainings, conferences, support groups, and college classes to providers; presentations to targeted center directors, College and University ECE faculty, CCR&R staff, and other relevant partners. 10-12 presentations or displays to providers about T.E.A.C.H. per year, many necessarily occurring in evenings or weekends, will be expected.

Maintain up-to-date records and familiarity with the University of Maine and community colleges’ early childhood education course work requirements, the CDA process, the federal financial aid process, as well as issues of articulation and transfer of credits. Keep up-to-date information on PELL grants and other applicable funding and forgivable loans for the child care workforce in Maine.

Assists with documenting and meeting the goals of the T.E.A.C.H. annual competency assessment, including active participation at system-level meetings with partners and system leaders. Represents the perspective of the recipient and sponsor at these meetings.

With the Co-Executive Director/T.E.A.C.H. Program Director, regularly evaluate the project and make recommendations for improvements.

Promote membership in and services offered by MaineAEYC in presentations (and to T.E.A.C.H. recipients).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor degree in early childhood education or related field required; and a minimum of three years experience working in a licensed child care program with emphasis or education in mentoring or counseling required. Ability to proficiently utilize a computer and MS Office applications; professional demeanor and appearance; above average interpersonal skills and the ability to get along with individuals at all levels. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond empathetically to questions from recipients, centers, funders, college faculty, constituent groups and the general public.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed largely in an office environment with little chance for personal injury. Deadline pressure is an integral part of the job. Frequent mental and visual concentration for computer usage and reading/assimilating computer information. Work hours are generally during normal business hours but do include some evening and weekend presentations, and average a minimum of 40 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. Requires some travel for the purposes of attending meetings, conferences, and speaking engagements.

Measures of Performance:
Quality, accuracy, timeliness, reliability and thoroughness of work performed; communicates effectively and develops good working relationships with clients and co-workers responsiveness to the information needs of management; soundness of business decisions made; maintenance of highly confidential business and financial information.

Equipment Operated:

Utilizes a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Internet access, and other specific applications. Utilizes a keyboard, telephone, office copier/printer, and other general office equipment.

Salary range $42,000-$48,000 and benefits offered. Anticipated start date in August 2023.
