The Richardson School is now accepting applications for a Physical Education Teacher! The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing physical education programs and health education designed to meet the unique needs of students and their IEP. Evaluates general physical education curriculum for appropriate activity writing and/or utilizing adapted physical education information to meet individualized physical education programs. Works with the Lead Teacher/SES in the daily program implementation and coordination.

The Richardson School provides a year-round school option for local districts to access for children with special needs. Typically, these children have been dually diagnosed with developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Designs achievement-based physical-education programs based on current abilities and needs of students. Modifies instructional strategies, activities, environment and equipment to facilitate optimum learning experience for the students. Incorporates technology as appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate adapted physical education IEP goals and objectives. Goals reflect an integrated understanding of each student’s disability and associated characteristics (physical, cognitive, and affective) with their specific individual characteristics. Actively attends and participates in IEP meetings. Presents comprehensive motor assessment reports and develops goals.
  • Continually evaluates and assesses student performance in the physical education setting, determines strengths and needs of each student and incorporates this into overall physical education program. Demonstrates initiative in developing and implementing new programming. Incorporates new instructional models and assessment techniques to assure optimum educational standards and ability to reach students’ changing needs. Teaches heath and hygiene classes with age-specific content and curriculum.
  • Functions within legal, licensing, School, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic and educational environment for students. Ensures learning environment and activities are conducive to student development of academics, independence, competence, and sense of self-worth. Reports per policy any suspected student abuse, whether physical, sexual, or mental/psychological.
  • Regularly informs Lead Teacher/SES of planning and implementation of group/individual educational, behavioral, or motivational instructional programs; changes in schedules or curriculum and Instructional Aide performance, etc. Completes and distributes to appropriate individuals within identified timelines all required documentation including lesson plans, Behavior Data Forms, Activity Requisition and Notification Forms, Transition Summaries. Substitute teaches as identified.

Qualifications

To be considered for this job, you must meet the following requirements.

  • Requires Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires current, active license in Physical Education (530) issued by the State of WI Department of Public Instruction, with Adaptive Physical Education license (860) preferred.
  • Experience in working with emotionally disturbed or cognitively disabled individuals preferred.
