Summary/Objective

Under the direction of the Vice President of Energy Services, the Data Specialist will collaborate with leadership to design and implement comprehensive reports that communicate findings, results, and insights derived from data analysis. The Data Specialist will also play a role in shaping and optimizing program initiatives through data-driven insights and drive continuous improvement in program design and delivery. This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and will represent CEDA in a variety of capacities. Must demonstrate good judgment, an ability to be approachable and professional, solid problem-solving skills, an ability to handle multiple tasks, an ability to be self-motivated and well organized, and maintain strict confidentiality.

Essential Functions

  • Collect, compile, and organize data from various sources, including internal databases, surveys, and external partners and sources.
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness by conducting regular audits and data validation checks.
  • Enter data into relevant systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform decision-making and improve program outcomes.
  • Generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data findings in a clear and meaningful way.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop data-driven recommendations and strategies.
  • Maintain and update databases, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Develop and implement data management procedures and protocols.
  • Monitor data processes and workflows to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organizational policies.
  • Implement data privacy measures and protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data requirements and address data-related challenges.
  • Communicate data insights and findings to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support data-related projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Keep informed of major trends, developments, and insights affecting Energy Services Programs.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant issues and developments in the field of strategic planning particularly as it applies to Energy Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Adobe Professional.
  • Skilled in strategy development and supporting project implementation.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative analyses, including developing purpose-driven measurement systems; strong overall data management and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to bring clarity to complex issues, build consensus, and handle highly sensitive information.
  • Superb organizational skills including the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit organizations and grants.
  • Ability to relate to personnel and clients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of creating and interpreting statistical data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and other tech platforms including Zoom.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment/Travel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works mostly in an office environment that is quiet to moderately loud, depending on the work area. Some local, county, or state travel may be required, including overnight stays. Employee is required to sit, use hands, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen while performing duties. General office equipment including personal computers, scanners, copiers, faxes, desk- and smartphones, and software programs. Occasional travel of distance, especially throughout the Cook County region, may be required, including occasional overnight stay. If using a personal vehicle, must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and auto insurance that meets State requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing/vision.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

It is an administrative support level position requiring the exercise of discretion and judgment and is required to work a full-time work week, as designated by the CEDA Employee Handbook, with periodic longer hours, including potential evenings, weekends, and odd hours, as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma and seven years of related experience, or Bachelors’ Degree and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in strategic planning, or equivalent, with a focus on planning, implementing, and analyzing new strategies.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, or equivalent, with a focus on planning, implementing, and analyzing new strategies.
  • Experience with energy efficiency grants, specifically LIHEAP.
